- Collections Trained replies to Concerned Woman| 4 repliesNo one can take legal action after the statute of limitations for delinquent debt has passed. Usually it's around five years but check your particular state for details. That said, it doesn't stop them from harassing you about an old debt. (You can report them for that, though, if they continue to contact you after being told to stop.) KEY: Do NOT admit to any debt. EVER!!! Once you do it starts the clock ticking again. Even saying "yes, but..." could get you on the hook again. And NEVER give them any information about you or confirm anything they say to you.
My response to phishing expeditions like this is to tell them to send whatever they have to whatever address they have and I'll have it reviewed for legal compliance upon receipt. I also ask for a copy of the recording they say they are making. I don't ever get anything!
These companies rely on people being scared and/or uninformed and making statements that will get them into trouble. Stay calm. Don't call them back. If you get something in writing, write back requesting verification and validation of the debt. Then go back to your coffee because they're not going to waste their time with you. - Conerned Mom in NV| 2 repliesJust got a call from this number threating to come to my home and work regarding civil lawsuit for very old credit debt. Asked me if I recalled credit card from 15 years ago and why it went into default 5 years ago. I told them I didn't know what he was talking about. He said they had mailed information 45 days ago so I should know, I told him I didn't get anything in the mail. He asked if I had trouble getting my mailed delivered, I told him no. He wasn't very happy that I wouldn't give him any information. I told him they would have to send it again, he didn't have an answer.
I'll post again if I hear from them.- Caller: Definitive Consulting

- Melissa| 2 repliesI got a call from someone that said there is a civil judgement filed against me for money I owe to sprint from like 15 yrs ago. They said there is penalties and that I owe $980. If I made arrangement to take care of the matter then they will remove the judgement filed at the riverside court. They had all my info including my last 4 digits of my social security. I did have an account from sprint long time ago but didn't remember owing them anything. But I did leave my contract early so I thought this must be legit. So I paid $245 and made a monthly arrangements for the balance. i called and try to get some of the penalties dropped down but when I called I couldn't get through to anyone. I looked up the phone number and others have said it was a scam.

- James replies to question for you| 2 repliesThe statute of limitations on civil debt is 7 years. Regardless of where the debt originated or where you lived. How creditors get around this limit is to sell a valid debt to a collections agency before the clock expires. Then that new agency has 7 years. And the cycle continues until the debt is considered non collectible. However, if at any point after expiration, you make any payments on the debt, the debt becomes valid and the clock starts again.
- James replies to ugh ugh ugh| 1 replyNo, the clock starts upon the inception of financial agreement between you and the creditor. Financial agreement meaning exchange of chattels, or money.
- James replies to Melissa| 1 replyIf you are getting calls from a collections agency, you owe nothing to Sprint. Sprint sold the account to that agency.
- annoyedReceived a call from this number today and they said I had a civil.complaint against me from a bill from 2004.. couldn't tell me what it was for. Said I owed $679 and I said noo way was I paying for something I don't even know what it's for.. put me on hold and came back with a settlement of $373 I said no still not paying. They said they sent me a demand letter which I have never received. They sent me a docu sign letter through email so I would pay immediately. He called me back as soon as it was sent asking if I got it.. I said I did and I was going to review it and go over it with my fiancé. He asked when could he expect me to call I told him he could call.me back in a couple hours but I wasn't doing anything until I reviewed it. You can't even print this document. The names that they gave are not even on their website.. doesn't seem legit to me! Tucker James and his secretary Hunter Keeler from definitive consulting. We replied to their document saying we were sending it to our attorney. Last year at this same time it was a different number and Jackson and Ray assciates was the company.. Scam!!

- Concerned CitizenThe person said they were with Compliance Services Processing or " CSP" for short. She said there was a "legal case filed" against someone I knew and asked how to get in touch with them. She gave this phone number and a "case number" the person would need. They are actually a collection agency and their name is not CSP, they are a company called Definitive Compliance Group (a collections agency). They should NOT be allowed to lie about who they are and they certainly should NOT be allowed to call anyone who has nothing to do with them or their business.

- Fighting backThese people must be kidding themselves. Maybe hire someone to sale it and not some punk ass kid from a telemarketing company that will end up getting them sued. Just to let them know the legal crap don't scare me. I once told a person pretending to be an IRS agent where to stick it.
