Caller ID listed 626-666-2000.
Knew name, asked for address, ID information.
Left voicemail asking to call at 1-800-266-4615 - DaniNOT A SCAM -- I called Bank of America to verify the name of the lady on the 800 number on my voicemail...they were able to connect me with her via their corporate directory -- she was a valid employee of the bank. Needed work information -- NOT A SCAM.
- Caller: Bank of America
- Call type: Unwanted
- HoraceThis is absolutely a scam. The names check out (the woman on the phone specifically said, "I can give you my name and they can look it up and see that it's on the corporate directory") but that's it. You can't give the information online through your account, you can't give it in person at the bank (unless they call this mysterious 800 number to "confirm")-- so your only option is to respond to their mailings or do it on the phone.
The 800 number doesn't appear anywhere on the BoA website, the form that was mailed to me was suspiciously vague (and contained unprofessional typos and smudges and punctuation) and came with an envelope addressed to a PO BOX in Arizona for me to send a bunch of personal information to that there is no reason any bank would want.
This is [***]. Don't get suckered in. - ZCSomeone just called me tonight from number:
6266662918 asking me to call 18002664615 to "update information"
I think it's a scam - Jim LeaIdentified herself as being with Bank of America. Said they had sent several notices by mail. Explained that they needed to update information before 6 pm Pacific time or they would have to restrain my account. Told her I understood but I wanted to call her back myself through Bank of America to verify this was a legitimate request. Gave me her name - Saundra Garner - 2 phone numbers one of which was 800-266-4615 and the other which was 800-444-8660, the private Wealth Management line. She assured me I could get to her through the corporate directory and urged me that time was of the essence. Seemed so legit I almost gave her the info at this point! The first number does not appear legit and the 2nd number truly is for BOA. However, when I called BOA confirmed that the call was a scam. There is no Saundra Garner in the directory. Furthermore they said they would never seek to get information in that way.
- Caller: Bank of America - scam
- Jim LeaUpdate to previous. The call came in from 626-666-3027.
- Caller: Bank of America - scam
- JR replies to kitIt's not a scam. Received a letter asking for verification info on my business. Plugged in the phone number to get this log. I called my local bofa branch and my rep got the "wealth management" division in Tempe AZ on the phone where I verified the info asked for.
Always best to call you local rep to verify. - timi just called B of A to check if this is a scam...will report back. my guy, marc staudt is listed in the directory, but that doesn't mean he's actually the one that called me.
- Caller: "b of a"
- george| 1 replyI got a call from this number and divulged a lot of personal info.. they asked for my name, address and debit card number for verification. the call was to get my citizen status and a type of id because my "information was incomplete." as soon as i hung up, i felt suspicious and checked the 1800 number online... and saw this post. worried, i called bank of america.. and was about to get my card cancelled, but then the customer service agent called the number. turns out.. it is bank of america compliance department, and it actually isn't a scam. people are to quick to say "SCAM!" but that's a good thing. luckily, my identification isn't stolen....
- Patrick replies to georgeI felt the same way - that it was a scam. I had gotten a mailing a few days earlier "warning" of the phone call and thought that if it was a scam, it was very sophisticated, so I started to give out information and then thought better of it.
It was hard to track down, but it really is BofA.
This may happen to you if you have been with BofA a long time. Your account information might have been collected before the new government requirements. That's why they need you to update.
If you have any concerns at all, what you should do is take the information to your local branch and give it to someone you can trust so they can make sure it gets to the right BofA department. - HollyThis is not a scam. Take the letter to your local branch and make them call that number. The bank has an internal way to verify associates. But if you go to banking center, don't let them tell you it's fraud. Make them call. I went to the banking center and the teller told me it was fraud. So I believed her and I didn't respond to the letter or the calls. Next thing I know I have a block on my account. I went to the banking center and made them call. They called and they verified it was Bank of America.
Don't find out it's not fraud the hard way! Once they release the hold they told me it still take 24 hours to have access to my money.- Caller: Bank of America
