- ChrisThis was a call from my bank, Patelco Credit Union, fraud prevention. Fraudulent charges had been attempted using my debit/visa card. Fortunately all were declined, my card is deactivated and a new card is being sent.
- Caller: Patelco Credit Union
- ChrisI also did verify this WAS FISERV calling on behalf of my bank. Yes you will be given a call back number that is slightly different than the number you are called from. I was called from 800-279-2674, and I was given a call back number of 800-262-2024. I then called my bank directly to verify and I was told FISERV monitors the accounts for many institutions, so they call on behalf of the financial institution.
- Caller: FISERV/Patelco Credit Union
- UNKNOWN replies to DanBe aware it is fraud!!!! Called my bank and they do not do this!!!!
- Thia replies to AshleyFolks, don't trust the "IT'S A SCAM," OR the "IT'S LEGIT" posts. Do yourselves a favor, ignore all the spam and comments, do NOT give any info over the phone, and ALWAYS:
CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD.
Always. Call. The. Number. On. Your. Card. Problem solved. - pd(800) 279-2674 is a number used by a company called Fiserv. They are a contract financial services company that is used by a number of banks. When someone calls from this number the say they are from your bank. If the said Fiserv you wouldn't know who that was and a lengthy explanation should have to follow with half of you thinking it was a scam.
How do I know this, I do because I have been in several lengthly conversations with their reps about a problem with on line Bill Pay provided by my bank which also included a 3 way conference call between me, my bank and them. When I call them, I use a different number, when they call me, it is always this one.
So. if someone calls from this number just tell them you want to verify who they are for security purposes, ask them who they get their paycheck from and ask for a call back number that is in the phonebook or switchboard number with an extension. Then look up
the company and call them to verify the number.
The reason so many banks have the same number is that they all contract with these guys.
So, trust but verify next time.- Caller: Fiserv
- Dan G.I received a call from this number. It was from Bank of America and was legitimate. I service a loan that incurred a late payment because BoA was not able to send the electronic payment on time.
- Caller: Bank of America
- Call type: Event reminder
- FumbleThis was a call from my bank regarding an inquiry I made about an on-line bill pay that was not received by the payee. They called my cell phone and then called my work number. They did NOT ask me for any of my personal information -
Never, ever give out personal information to an incoming call UNLESS you can verify or you are familiar with the number calling you. Never click on a link for a bank or credit card - always type in the web address manually. - RebeccaMTThe call is legit - it is the fraud detection center. My credit union has an automatic block on international attempts to collect on my debit card. I made an international order - the block was removed - all is well. Merry Christmas to my hubby!

- Not an IdiotI received a call from this number a few moments ago and let it go to voicemail. The person didn't leave a message. I came here, read the posts. Then checked my Bank Account and saw nothing unusual. I called the number - get this - there is an outgoing message saying: this is a nonworking number! hahaha How stupid do these people thing we are. It IS a working number and I just reached your voicemail, dumbcluck. The outgoing message further says to "call the number left for you on your voicemail". However, as I said, t here was no message left. I sense this is straight up fraud. I've had these types of calls before.
- Caller: ?
- Onto YouFirst of all, I have done ALL the detective work on this number.
I called back the number and an outgoing message said: this is not a working number. If you received a voicemail message, call the number in that voicemail.
RED FLAG NUMBER ONE: If it is not a working number, then no one would have been calling ME from THAT number, for starters.
RED FLAG NUMBER TWO: If it is ot a working number, the phone company and an automated system will tell you that, NOT a prerecorded voicemail directly you to "call the number that was left for you on voicemail".
RED FLAG NUMBER THREE: The message was extensive. it gave the name of the caller (Mike from Bank of America online bill pay), it gave a credible message: Brian Hart has a charge to the account of $1064.76 related to you, Case #55192599. Please call 855-739-0856. (You have to be VERY SMART to catch this - no bank calls a potential perpetrator about fraud on their own customer's account.)
RED FLAG NUMBER FOUR: I called the 855 number and a woman claiming to be "Amber" answered. She insisted on my name: NO THANK YOU - I don't give out my name to anyone. "What's the case number." I didn't give it at first, but asked her who she was, what company she worked for (BofA), what department (Merchant Support).
RED FLAG NUMBER FIVE: I said: so what do you want? and she said: well you called ME. and I said: No, YOU called ME and I called you guys back, now what do you want? So she starts down this winding trail of "we have to protect our customers blahblahblah. And I said: WHOA! If I am your customer, go ahead and protect me. If someone else is your customer that you are trying to protect, or so you say, WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME? I also told her I thought she was an unmitigated fraud, had no credibility, was a crooked as the day is long, and will look really good in an orange jumpsuit, hopefully.
I reported all of this to Bank of America, as that was the supposed Bank they were calling from.
ALL SCAMS PEOPLE. ALL ALL ALL SCAMS. - Scam BusterThis is a scam. Repeat, this is a scam. If this was a real bank and you did not answer the call, would they not leave a message to call them back? I have had real calls from banks regarding people trying to use one of my credit cards. First, their caller ID showed up. Second, they left a message to call them back. Third, when I called them back, I got through to them and did not get a message saying the number was invalid.
I also got an email from the bank asking me to verify the charge.
Despite what some posters have said, this is a scam. - Scam BusterSome information I left out of my previous post. I received this call on a new cell phone I had just bought. Only 3 people know this number. None of the banks and credit card companies know this number. Although this might be a legit number from a legit company, this number can also be spoofed by scammers. So, if you do get a call from this number, do not give any personal information. If they are a legit company, they already have all your information. Once they tell you what bank or card is being used, call that bank or cards number, listed on back of the card or on your bank statement and verify that they are reporting a bougus charge.
- A BankerThis number is from FiServ EFT, and is in all likelihood your bank's debit card processor and fraud monitoring service, so yes, it's legitimate, but if you are unsure, contact your bank instead. A customer service rep or someone at your bank should be able to verify the suspicious information for you just the same and contact FiServ on your behalf.
- LoriSomeone called me from this number from my current bank, Bank of America. I know this is legit, because I had used online bill pay and the check hadn't arrived yet. I had opened a case the day before, and they knew the payees and the situation regarding my check. I've never known a scammer to leave a message, either. This woman did.
I saw someone else post about online billpay on here, so maybe this is the company that banks use to follow up on billpay matters.- Caller: Bank of America
- PATit is legit! when i called back it said i was calling a non working # so you should always call your credit card co # on the back of your card. It was the fraud dept calling about recent charges on my acct that I did make.. they are just looking after you...
- Caller: rutgers fcu visa
- MaxReceived a call to my number, no message left. Tried calling back and there is a message stating it is a "nonworking number." I'm guessing it is not legit because they would have left a message if it was.
- MaxReceived another call from this number, this time they left a message, I verified the information in the message by searching the number they gave me to call back on found it listed as a customer service number on an official website. I called them back and can confirm that it is legit. The last several messages here confirm that the number is legit, for some reason they sometimes don't leave messages and probably are not that efficient which makes people think it is a scam.
- DJIt's Bank of American bill pay/customer service. Why the caller ID only shows Toll Free means don't answer to me on all calls of this type. They did leave a voicemail that proved it was them.
- Caller: Bank of America
- Sue in PAIt is a legitimate number--the 800-279-2674 is an outgoing-only number from a fraud detection company's call center, which is why you can't dial it successfully. Your bank, credit union, or credit card company has a contract with them to, among other things, notify their customers when suspected fraudulent charges come through. A message was left for me giving a different number to call, and it involved fraudulent charges on my credit union Visa debit card.
- Caller: Fiserv on behalf of Sharonview FCU
- Frustrated with the phone callsMine showed up as "UNKNOWN" which I never answer. When I called number back, it said it was "not a working number and to please return their call using the contact number provided on the voicemail." No message was left so no number to call.
I did get an email from a customer who had sent a payment via Bill Pay through Bank of America more than 10 days ago. He told me the service had tried to call me, but got no answer. Turns out BofA processed the payment and mailed a check alright, but the check listed my company name, my bank's name, but NO ADDRESS!
DO BE AWARE THOUGH - plenty of scammers are using Caller ID Spoofing. They can make the name AND number show up on your called ID be anything they want. If you haven't experienced it before - google it.
