Got a text message stating my last four digits of my debit card claiming a fraudulent transaction was declined and then that number called me but only to verify my identity with yes or no answers. I was transferred to a representative and did not asked for my information only to confirm a new card was being issued asap.

I got an email this morning showing transactions that I did not authorize which told me to call 800-307-3161, I called and verified at 10:30am( which I know was stupid), so I called a chase number from the actual chase website at 1:30 which also sounded weird, realizing my mistake I went to a chase branch and the the person that helped me said that I did indeed call chase at 10:30 and 1:30, But this is were it gets really confusing I forwarded the email abuse@chase.com which verifys fraudulent emails and they told me it was fake.

This number is very strange.  800-307-3161 is not a chase number per chase.  But they knew about charges on my account and asked the exact same questions that the REAL fraud department at chase asked when I called them.  When I called the real chase I told them that I called a number back and I just wanted to make sure it was them.  They stated that they did have a record of me calling.  So I figure it was legit, but I still followed up with the specific question of " Is 800-307-3161 a chase number" and after checking they said it was not a chase number.  Be very careful with this number. Just call the number on the back of your card back.

I got another text saying Free MSG: Chase Fraud: did you use your card ending xxxx ? I send a 2 for no (not my card) they say they'll call- if they did I didn't get a voice-mail.
The first time gave me to call is  800-355-5265,  this time the # 800-307-3161. I haven't called either time. I called my bank and credit cards after the first time. I checked my credit report there isn't any Chase at all.
I do not have an account of any kind at Chase! Who is using my phone number?

Here what the Chase representative, who I called using the number on the back of my card. It could be Chase and the way you can tell is they will only ask you about a specific charge in question. Which you press 1 for yes or 2 for No . They will never ask for any information other than if you made that purchase or not. NEVER GIVE OUT INFO OVER THE PHONE OR IN A TEXT MSG Simply put this was probably a legit call because I made an out of the country purchase and they just wanted to validate if I made that charge. As long as you follow the yes I made the purchase or no I did not, you won't get burned. If they ask for anything more than that, hang up!

I received a call today from this number. It is legit. I bank with Chase, and someone tried to spend $1100 on "personal services" in NY on my card. They declined the charges on my behalf, and advised where I can get a new debit card printed out, since they'd placed mine on hold.

We received the same text today. Supposedly fraud on a card ending xxxx. Not even a real card we have. We replied "2" for no its not a transaction we made. They called. It was this weird number that i know is NOT chase. They immediately asked for the card number and our social security. We hung up. Do NOT give any info over the phone. Dont talk to someone who calls you. Instead YOU call the number on the back of your Chase card. And you can tell that these scammers are posting here pretending that this is not a scam.

FYI    I received a text, last night, from this number indicating that there was potential fraud on my card.   The text also cited a few of the transactions in question.   The wording within the text was a little odd so I looked on 800Notes and saw your comments.   Being a little suspicious, I then called the Chase number on the back of my card and spoke with the Fraud department.   They did, in fact, have a hold on my card and they verified that the 800-307-3161 number was indeed theirs.   Cheers!

It's a legit call from Chase. Unfortunately the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing when the auto system follows up.

This number is definitely authentic, it is not a scam. I first got a text notification from the number informing of possible fraudulent activities on my account.  I immediately called the customer service number on the back of my Chase debit card, and sure enough, someone had indeed attempted to use my debit card several times. Do not ignore this text. If in doubt, contact Chase CS directly for verification.

We received a call from this number which stated they were from Chase Credit card fraud division.   This was a computerized voice with the name dubbed in after the fact.  It was for my son.  They had his first name and middle initial which he doesn't even use on his bank card. He called used the 800 number on the back of his card to call Chase.  They said there was no hold on his card and that was NOT their fraud department that called.  When ever I have had a fraud alert from Chase they send me a Text message.  They have called my husband by phone but is its not a computerized voice it is an actual person.

About  39 calls on this thread and I count  13 or about  33 percent , as shill posts.  The shillers basically posting to  tell everyone how "legit" this number is.

This number is  most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real,   is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. At a 33% shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam.  At least that's the way I see it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go as high as 50%. Sometimes even higher.

This  scam is well documented.  Simply google it out.  Based  on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.

T hese type of calls follow a  similar pattern.  They all  claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions.  Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”.   All with the same type of   postings.  All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made.  Or something similar.  They all ask for personal or personal financial information.

Just part of the shillers  criminal MO.

I've noticed the  shill posters often use the same turns of phrase.  Same old, same old verbiage telling  everyone how "legit" the calls are.

Personally I think the group or groups  posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both.  They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.

In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you.  If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.

Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far.  (That I’ve been able to find.)
