Message popped up on computer to call this number, supposedly from Microsoft warning that computer has virus and will be shut down in 5 minutes if I don't call.  TOTALLY BOGUS!!!!

I just got the same thing!

A warning that computer has a virus and will be shut down in 5 minutes if I don't call. This message popped up on my computer. It's a scam and should be shut down. Some people are probably losing a lot of money because they believe these thieves.

I called the number.  The lady instructed me to go into my settings.  I noticed that she was directing me to give her remote desktop operation.  I ended the process and the call.  She would have had everything, and probably locked me out of my own computer.

Screen popped with Microsoft on it advising me that I had been hacked and was in grave danger.  If I exited and didn't call the number to have me scrub the computer (they would tell me how) , they would have to disable my computer.  I did a shut down.  I restarted and everything seemed OK.  I called the number:  No id as Microsoft.  When answered by agent, he didn't id himself as Microsoft.  I said to stop hacking me and hung up.

This number appeared on my monitor when my computer "froze." I called it, got scammed, and am now contesting the payment. Microsoft says it's a scam.

MY computer froze. WITH multiple pop ups warning me to call this number to get rid of a computer virus. I knew better then to call. I could not close the pop ups. I was able to shut down my computer. ALL is well now.
