- My two centsAmerican Express customer service call center is in India. I cancelled my card with them because of that. I guarantee you that some dishonest employees work there and copy our info and sell it to the scam call centers.
Always call the number on the back of your card. - John DrakeMy wife got a call from this number and rejected it but after checking here, we checked her account and found 3 fraudulent charges on it. She called the AMEX number on her card and they told her there were 5 fraudulent charges with 3 that went through and 2 that were intercepted. AMEX is going to block all the charges, cancel her card, and issue a new one. If you get a call from this number, all AMEX directly at the number on your card to check it out.
- Caller: American Express
- Bill| 1 replyYes - this is American Express.
They called while I was still on the phone putting a $1000 down payment on a new motor for a family car.
The guy at the auto place said that the charge was rejected at the same time my 'call waiting' beeped - and he said that was probably American Express. It was, and the automated system asked about the $1000 payment from the shop as a 'suspicious charge' - so I verified it and completed the payment.
A nice safety net - but a little surprising the first time it happens.
If in doubt - call the number on the back of your AmEx card.
If you don't have a American Express or Optima card and get a call from this number - call American Express and ask why they have your phone number linked to someones card.- Caller: American Express
- Question replies to BillInteresting. People look things up because they want to know more or because they simply don't know. Yet you knew everything there is to know about this phone number but looked it up anyway. Now why would you do that?
- drmI received a call and a message from this number that said it was American Express calling regarding suspicious activity on my account. They gave me a number to call and / or suggested that i could call the number on my card instead. I called the number on the back of my card. They did confirm that American Express had called me in regards to suspicious activity on my account. The account activity was reviewed and there were multiple bogus attempts to use my account online! That account is now closed and a new card has been issued. I would suggest that if you get a similar call from this number CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD! Don't blow it off. It only takes a few minutes to call Am Ex and check and could prevent a major problem from developing!
- Caller: toll free number / American Express
- Spamh8rAMEX FRAUD PREVENTION. This # came across my CID this afternoon. I looked it up on 800 notes and saw it was AMEX Fraud Prevention. I immediately called my husband and told him to call the # on the back of his card. AMEX informed him a fraudulent $100 purchase was made on his card in Texas!
Many thanks, 800 notes and everyone for your postings!- Caller: 800-382-0613 AMEX Fraud Prevention
- ThankfulIt is American Express Fraud prevention. Call them back ASAP. They called me because someone tried to make a $900 purchase at a local Costco with a fake AE card with my AE number on it! The attempted charge had occurred just 3 min. before I received the call from AE fraud.
- Caller: American Express Fraud
- Confirmed| 1 replyLegit. Got a voicemail from 800.824.9289 that said to call Amex Fraud b/c of possible fraud charges. The message told me to call 800.382.0613. After calling it and providing my info (like an idiot) i thought it may have been fraudulent so i called Amex back from the number on my card. The first guy told me it was not an AMEX #. I called back and the second guy actually called the number and was able to see on his phone that it was an INTERNAL Amex # and it was legit. If struggling to know if the 800.382.0613 is real (from this website - as I did). Call the number on the back of your card and ask the rep to call 800.382.0613 from their line and it will show up as an INTERNAL #. Hope this helps.
- Caller: 800.382.0613 AMEX
- blondemomReceived two calls from this number. I called it back and a woman answered that she was from fraud division. She asked for my account number, I declined. Asked for last four digits and ss#, I declined. Told her I would call the number on the back of my card to which she was supportive of. Did call 800#on my card and found there was a fraudulent charge. Cancelled card with new one on way. AMEX is a great company but if in doubt always call the number listed on the back of the card. Yes it is too bad we have to be always on guard. Better to be safe than sorry.
- Caller: Am Ex, but listed as NOT PROVIDED
- CWG40This number is most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale institutions.
Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
Of the 50 posts in this thread, I count 23 or so, or about 46% as shill postings.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real, is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.
There is a similar pattern to other fake calls. They all claim to be from groups like AMEX , Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions. All with the same type of postings.
The shill postings often use the same turns of phrase. The same type of verbiage telling everyone how "legit" the calls are.
Personally I think the group or groups posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both.
Never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you. If you have a problem with a CC or debit card transaction, call the number on the back of the card or the number on your monthly card statement.

- Beware AmEx ScamI received a call from someone claiming to be from American Express warning about the fraudulent use of my credit card. I called the number on the back of my card and discovered that it was NOT in fact American Express calling, but a scam to get information.

- mole replies to B. EelI received 'suspicious activity call' message from this number today.. They said call back, give your a/c number and you will be directed to the right department. No way am I giving out my a/c number this randomly, so I called American Express, and they checked and said there was no such call made by them, and said that phone number is not one of theirs. Beware.
- FBeeReceived a text and email from American Express notifying me of a fraudulent charge. After following the prompts of the email, I was directed to call 1 (800) 382-0613 or the number on the back of my card. I called the number on the back of card and there was, in fact, a fraudulent charge as well as another that I was not alerted to. They cancelled the card and sent out a new one with a new number. I also asked the representative to verify 1 (800) 382-0613 and was told it is a valid number for Fraud Protection Services. It is always advisable to be vigilant about scams. And always call the number on the back of the card as they will route you to the proper channel.
- Caller: American Express
- EBPHISHING SCAM!!!!! Received a robo voicemail from this number, claiming to be Amex. This is not American Express. I logged into my account to verify any fraud charges and there are not any. I called Amex and they verified it is a scam. NEVER return a call to the phone number left on a voicemil...ALWAYS call the number on the back of your card. If someone calls you and asks for your account info, hang up immediately and call the company back directly to verify.
- Caller: American Express
