It seems that the calls from the other number are bogus. Is this exactly the same people?

Caller is unknown, but apparently ERC Collections. Always "this call is for (unintelligible or blank). If this is not you please delete this message as it is not for you."

This occurs at least 4 times a week.

They called as I was leaving for work and looking for an unknown name, incorrect person. They didnt believe me at first that I didn't know this person and they had the wrong number. Lots of mumbling and voices speaking other languages in the background.

The message said that the call was for "silence" and if it wasn't that person, hang up. They also left a referral number. I called back and gave the information... They had my phone number and address listed, but with the wrong name. I checked my credit report and there have been no changes, but this is really scary!

I activated my first mobile phone on July 1.  On July 3, then a few days later, and on July 9-10 I received "missed calls" and voice mails from that number.  I sent an email to info@erccollections.com listing the dates and times of the calls and ended it with "I read that you have done this to others as recently as June 25 [I was off by one day].  Stop calling me."  That was my only response and I have not received a call from them since!

They left me a message.  I only heard part of it because it was a recording, so I called back because I have had problems in the past with them calling everyday.  They had left me alone for 2 months.  I told them the reference# and they said a name, and told me the phone # would be deleted out of the file in 24hrs.  I'll have to see how it works out.

i received four calls from this number on many days throughout the summer, and most recently on 8/20 and 8/23, usually leaving the message that the call is for a 'blank', and if 'blank' is not here the call is a mistake...

ive tried calling the number with no response, and today tried your email approach with a strong threat of litigation if they persist, and ill post a followup here next month either way...

thanks to everyone posting on, and hosting a site with helpful information.

    Tired of automated calling
If the government is going to allow harassing phone calls they should at least require a live person to be on the phone before connecting a call. I am tired of listening to automated messages and holding for harassing idiots who cannot figure out(or tend to ignore) that deadbeats change phone numbers regularly and new number holder expect them to quit calling after the first time they are told that a new person now has this number.

This company is calling saying if this is not (unintelligible name) please ignore , otherwise call the number about a debt collection.  When I called them the claimed my number was not in their database.  Funny they called it twice.  The State Attorney General will hear from them.  Everyone should do this with these annoying calls because they can get the company for harassment,

I kept getting automated voicemail messages from this number and I called to tell them that the person for whom they were leaving the message never lived here.  A number of times when I tried to call back no one was there to pick up the phone.  Finally, when I was able to reach someone, I told them that they had the wrong number and to take me off their calling list.  To no avail.  The most recent exchange took place last week.

Today, I received a call from another number (888) 569-8148 for the exact same person.  When I told them that this person never lived here, they spoke so quickly that I was unable to decipher what they said, then hung up.  I called back and asked them to take me off the calling list for this person.  The person to whom I was speaking began berating me, saying that they were going to take me off their calling list and to stop threatening them, then hung up.  I called back and asked for their name and address.  He told me that his name was Dane and refused to give me the address of the company, but did give me the name (Northland Group).  I'm sending a letter to the FTC and the NY Attorney General's office about both collection agencies.  In addition, I'm contacting Homeland Security because the person's name that is associated with my telephone number is of Middle Eastern origin and I'm concerned that my identity may be associated with someone who may be here illegally.

Got a call from them this morning. It was like the normal telemarketing calls. They said my name and that I owed money for something and that I should call the number to settle the debt.

I couldnt understand what number they wanted me to call and whom I was supposed to owe the money. Also I am sure it was a taped call.

3:31 pm, 9/30/08. Just received 3rd call from ERC today. 1st was a hang up, no message, 2nd was barely audible,"message from ERC", then hung up, just now was an automated message from Chelsea @ ERC 1-800-403-8950 to delete message if not person with unintelligible name. Maybe if everyone having trouble with this annoying company would give Chelsea a call 3 or more times a day, then just maybe, they'd change their tactics, (or loose an employee!) I know I'D QUIT if it was happening to me. (A dose of their own medicine.)

    You've got it all wrong....

Just for those wondering about ERC...Chelsea is the automated dialer...so please feel free to call her all you like.  And for those pesky phone calls you "say" you can't get rid of....ask the rep to remove your # and they do and just so you know...it takes 24 -48 hours for the # to cycle out of the automated dialer (Chelsea)!  It's not a collectors job to harass people and that's not what we do.  Our job is to collect money that is owed and if the bill would get paid in the first place we wouldn't have to make those annoying calls to everyone and their grandmother.  Just to be clear about one more thing...I have been on both sides of those calls, I have been collected on and now am the collector and although everyone thinks they have us figured out, you are wrong.  We don't work in India and we don't own your debts...we are not out sourced foreigners...we are from right here in the great ole US of A and all we are trying to do is help you get resolution on the issue!  I get yelled at a thousand times a day by people who don't know me from eve, but I still come to work everyday trying to help people get out of debt!  So really, I don't care how you look at it, it's a damn good job!  Oh and FYI, what do you think those credit counseling services do...they are collection agencies as well that are charging you interest to pay your debt and that settlement you think only they are able to get you...you can get by calling companies like ERC youself.  So really...who's the pirana here?

We are a business who along with our new phone service a year and a half ago got the phone number of someone who seems to be on several collectors' data base.  We get calls everyday for this person and cannot convince the collector that this person is not known to us and this is a business line.  It interferes with our business.  How can we get these calls to stop?
