they just say it is an attempt to collect a debt

I've gotten a v-mail message at least once a week for the past 5 weeks on my cell phone. They leave an automated message seeking a woman I don't know and stating they're collecting a debt.

Today I got a call from real live person. I told him he had a wrong number, and to stop calling me. I stated I was going to report him. He told me to go ahead.

These guys are SCAMERS, thieves, they called me to collect a debt that is 14 years old which I have already settled very long time ago, they buy aged debt or accounts and call to harrass people............DO NOT PAY THEM and dont answer them

1-800-395-8289: they call my house at 8:00 pm every evenening.  I will report to donotcall.gov.

These idiots buy " old debts ". Unfortunately for me they found one for a dude with my name. After explaining 10 times they have the wrong guy it continues. Now I'm gonna have some fun. Call forwarding them to their own number, cease and desist letters, etc.  It's going to be silly !

One of our work direct dial numbers is getting these calls.  Started about a month ago, once a week they've called and left message about a debt.  No details whatsoever, not even the name of the person or company they're lookin g for. Automated message.  We only set this phone number up 6 months ago so I seriously doubt there is an actual debt connected to the phone number.

They have called my cell phone, they never say who they are or who they are trying to reach. The message always states that there is an outstanding billing that they are trying to collect and I need to call them.

They called around 3:00pm (Pacific Time) on 3rd Oct 2007 and they left a message (male voice) saying "the call is for collecting information for a debt. I called back around 7:00pm to two numbers, the  calling number "1-800-395-8289" and "1-866-580-0274". Both numbers are dead-air (i.e. no dial tone or ringing phone, just no sound at all), I hung up after 2 or 3 minutes. I searched the web and got all the bad things about them. I decided to leave a message here to let other people know about they. Hope this helps.

Received message on answering machine from Bob Jones of CBCS.  Stated that he was "attempting to collect a debt and to call 800-395-8289."  Called the number but got no rings or anything, just silence.

I get this call almost daily, sometimes at 8:30am on a Saturday with the same message "This is Bob Jones from CBCS, I am trying to collect a debt and any information regarding this will be used for those purposes".

How long are these people gonna keep calling, they have been calling for the past 4-5 months.

Anybody know when they will get the point that I'm not giving them a dime ? Alot of time they call and the number comes up, but they don't leave a message.

I reported them on the Attorney General's Website...possibly the greatest feeling ever.  They called after the report, and I told them that I reported them.  They haven't called me back yet, but I'm sure I'll get a call sooner or later from these clowns.

On January 3, 2007 i got a phone call (to my cell phone) from 1-800-8289.  I didn't answer it, and they did not leave a voicemail.  This evening (January 8), they called again.  Again, i didn't answer and they didn't leave a message.

I decided to look up the number (just with google), and i found tons of links telling me that this is more than likely a scam.

after about a dozen calls to my prepaid phone, I called them back. The person that answered asked for my number, did a look up and asked if I was so-and-so. I said no, she apologized and said my number would be removed from the system. If it works out, no big deal.
