- Fred CraneYeah, let em keep calling... if they don't have the decency to have a "live" person talk to me, then [***] em.
- California NativeMy call sounds similar, but the phone number is different. 800-240-1195.
To my recollection, the voice message goes as follows: This is (male name...unfortunately I forgot it) from CBCS. I am trying to collect a debt and any information regarding this will be used for those purposes".
I am 99% sure I do not have any uncollected debts. However, we recently have moved cross country and things may have been lost in the shuffle. Possible, yet highly unlikely.
This call has been reoccuring for the last 2 months now.- Caller: CBCS or CVCS

- Tracy replies to AF| 1 replyThey called my inlaws asking if we still live at our current address and can they give them our number.. How can that be legal???
- AlfalfaTracy,
Like a lot of other debt collectors, they do skip tracing in order to locate someone. This is legal AS LONG AS they do NOT discuss the alleged debt with the third party they are calling:
§ 804. Acquisition of location information [15 USC 1692b]
Any debt collector communicating with any person other than the consumer for the purpose of acquiring location information about the consumer shall:
(1) identify himself, state that he is confirming or correcting location information concerning the consumer, and, only if expressly requested, identify his employer;
(2) not state that such consumer owes any debt....
§ 805. Communication in connection with debt collection [15 USC 1692c]
(b) COMMUNICATION WITH THIRD PARTIES. Except as provided in section 804, without the prior consent of the consumer given directly to the debt collector, or the express permission of a court of competent jurisdiction, or as reasonably necessary to effectuate a postjudgment judicial remedy, a debt collector may not communicate, in connection with the collection of any debt, with any person other than a consumer, his attorney, a consumer reporting agency if otherwise permitted by law, the creditor, the attorney of the creditor, or the attorney of the debt collector.

- Jo JoI received a letter from CBCS about a month and a half ago. I tried contacting them at their Columbus number but was on hold for nearly 10 minutes with a message that just kept thanking me for holding. I finally contacted CBCS through an 800 number and spoke with a woman. It was a valid debt that they had from a local hospital. I tried to set up a payment plan and sent them my first payment on the 7th. Since then I have received 3 calls from 800-395-8289 today and 1 Friday. I also received calls from 866-463-3021 on Tuesday and Thursday last week. They keep calling my cell phone but are not leaving messages. I googled the numbers to see who was calling and am very surprised to see that I am being harassed only 10 days after sending payment. If it keeps up I will have to file a report just like many others on here.

- annie oyedHere's the message verbatum: "Hi, my name is Bob Jones and I'm calling from CBCS. I'm attempting to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose. Please contact me at 1-800-395-8289. Thank you."
I don't owe any debts that haven't been settled or up to date on current payments. I'm not behind on anything!! They have to be scammers but they also have to be stopped!!! Who can we report these [***] too? Can I forward the call to the Attorney General? What about everyone forwarding to the Attorney General, maybe someone will get these [***] from calling day and night.- Caller: CBCS
- Fifi replies to Matt| 2 repliesPlease let me know how you did this. These people call me at work, home, cell phone, etc. They say they are trying to collect a debt for a hospital visit. Neither I nor any of my family have ever been to the hospital in question. I asked for them to send copies of the bill showing what procedures were done, who the doctor is and who the patient is. They come up with a person that I've never heard of as the patient
and no other information. I think this is truly a scam. - JeffThey called twice in one hour. The first time the phone only rang once. The second time I answered and the caller hung up.
- Ashley replies to Fifi| 1 replyFirst of all, you can tell them you are not allowed to recieve personal calls at work, so they have to stop calling you there. Ask for the social security numbers and see if they match up, that is the best way to prove it is not you or anyone else in your family. They may ask you to send in a copy of your SSN card, it should be safe to do. I used to work on a Gov't contract and this is how we would prove if it was the debtor or not. Good Luck
- JLSome black woman (whom I couldn't understand) called and claimed that I owed for a medical bill for my son. When I tried to explain to this woman that this bill had been paid DIRECTLY to the hospital almost two months ago, she became very nasty and verbally abusive.
This is not the first horrible encounter with this company. They have attempted to collect twice, almost three times on accounts that have been settled with the hospital/doctor's office.
Please report them to the State Attorney General's office and help put this shady operation out of business!- Caller: CBCS

- JeffDefinitly a collection agency. They kept calling weekly starting about 4:00pm. They use digital prompts. I finally called them back. The person they were looking for is unknown to me. I asked them to stop calling (Firmly). They said they would not call back. We will see.
- Call type: Debt collector
- JeffThey keep calling with an automated caller. I called back once and told them I didn't know the person they were calling. They called again today. Once again they promised to take my phone number out of this system. We will see.

- not libby johnson replies to carolann| 1 replyI've been receiving calls from this number and others for several months now. Sometimes they come once every couple of weeks, other times it's a few times a day. When I let it go to voice mail, I get the message about debt collection from "Bob Jones," as described by others here.
When I pick up, there is a female voice recording that says they're looking for "Libby Johnson." I press 2 to indicate that that is not me. Next, it asks if she's not home, if she needs time to come to the phone, or if it's a wrong number; I press 3 to indicate that it's a wrong number. The first time I did this, I thought it was the last I'd be hearing from them... but the calls haven't decreased at all.
This scam makes no sense to me. I have no debt, new or old, collected or uncollected, and I'm not the person they're supposedly looking for. And if the others who posted below are any indication, there's no way to talk to a real person even by calling back. When will it end?? - marjthis 1800-395-8289 number's been calling our home phone since 2006, since we moved in our new home, looking for ysrael herera(my spelling might be wrong but that's who they're looing for) it's automated machine and I pressed 1 so I can talk to someone told them stop calling our home number because theres no such person who lived here by that name. they have stopped after I told them also that i reported thier harrassment to the atty. general.
this year 2008 of april-may as i can recall they have started calling again and its voice mail and you cant talk to anyone, When I did patiently waited after couple of minutes I spoke to a lady and I told her the problem and I am almost yelling, I have became uneducated that time, told them to stop calling us. They're looking for the same guy! I told her remove our phone number from thier data base because no person with that name lived her, but they're still calling and it's everyday, early morning and sometimes evening, 2-3 times a day. I have had enough of this maybe I should take more action(s). and please ysrael herera if you're out there we dont know how much you owe his people but please show up and pay your debt,.. if you do have some.
as for Us, we don't have past or present debts , dont even use credit card unless needed, dont even use bank card, we deal with cash so we dont have to deal with this problems and now this annoying people keeps calling us! WHEN THEY WILL EVER STOP!!!!!!!!!- Caller: CBCS? as I remember it from 2006

- NewPhoneNumberI have been getting multiple calls per day from this number since I switched phone numbers. They never leave a message or say why they are calling. I do not answer because I have screen all my calls and don't answer if I don't know the number and/or it doesn't register on caller ID. Never received a call from them (or two other numbers like them) until I changed phone number, maybe they're looking for the person who had the number previously?

- GalenThe Company CVC has been calling my number looking for members of the Gary Higens family in Iowa for the last four years in spite of me sending them cease and disist letters reporting them to the attorney generals office and reporting them to the do not call registry. Once again today I was contacted by them and the answer they had for me not to be harassed by them any longer.... Change my phone number!

- PEPEthis CBS COLLECTING AGENCY CALLED ME MULTIPLE TIMES .THEN I FINALY DECIDED TO CALL THEM BACK. TO MY SUPRISE A LADY BY THE NAME SHANTELL ANSWERED ASKING ME THAT I WAS SUPPOSE TO PAY SOME HOSPITAL FEE 650 NOW THAT THE STIMULUS MONEY FROM IRS IS IN. I WAS ALITTLE SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THIS BUT WENT AHEAD AND TOLD HER THAT AM FULL TIME STUDENT AND THAT I COULDN'T AFFORD TO PAY IT IN CASH. SHE FINALLY AGREED TO SCHEDULE PAYMENT PLANS WHICH WAS SUPPOSE TO BE 20 DOLLARS EACH MONTH TO WHICH I AGREED TO IT AND EVEN PAID 20 DOLLARS UPFRONT, A WEEK LATER SHE CALLED AGAIN ASKING ME THAT MY BILL COULD BE CONSOLIDATED AND THAT I COULD PAY A ONE TIME OF 315 AND THAT'S WHEN NI EVBEN BECOME MORE SUSPICIOUS. BE ALERT GUYS THIS IS JUST BUT A SCAM WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!

- MakI get these calls almost every day.
Unlike for most of you, these guys don't leave a message after they call. On the rare occasion that I do answer, I hear some quiet static, and then they hang up. - D.W.These people usually call me once a day. However, there have been times when they've called five times in a single day. I always let the calls go to voicemail. Most of the time they don't leave a message. But sometimes I do get this: "This is Bob Jones from CBCS, I'm attempting to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose."
This has been going on for 8 months now. Won't these people ever go away?!?- Caller: CBCS

- nonyeumThey tried to collect on a charge card debt (the "Statute of Limitation") expired on that debt. Charge/ Credit Card debt is only good for 3-6 years depending on the state. I never disclosed my number to them yet they found my cell# and have it on an automatic dial. I immediately went to the Attorney General's office website and filled out a complaint form then mailed the form to the Attorney General's office via U.S. Postal. It is profitable for them to keep calling you cause apparently they can write that off as a business expense in their taxes. They can say this is what it cost to track you down. Also sometimes they will get a government subsidy for their losses on old debt (depending on the debt). Hope this helps.
