- VirginiaCalled me at work to tell me they were from Dell and said my computer was about to crash. I have a service contract with Dell, so I assumed that they were from Dell. Not sure how they got my direct work number if they were not from Dell. I suggested they call me at home to work on home computer. Said my computer had 93% infected files and that I needed to buy anti-virus software in order for them fix the virus. There were 3 types of software I needed to download and that I would need to access it from a specific website because it is not a Dell product and that they will help me download it. Anti-virus software was from $200 - $400 depending on how many years you wanted service. They were very persistent and said I needed to download now because my computer was severely infected. I told them I was not prepared to spend that kind of money and will call them back when I was ready. There was a long period of silence and they hung up.
- TracyI have received repeated call from 800-425-5055. They claim to be Dell but their a scam line. Worse than their computer scam, I have had 3 callers repeated call back after I hang up and with what is nothing short of porn. I have recorded their calls and turned them over to the FCC and FTC. One caller actually went on for 10 minutes (I had laid the phone down) before hanging up. 30 seconds into the playback I conluded he has to moonlight as a sex line operator. If you see this number on your caller ID; don't answer.

- MSD| 1 replyThey just called me and I believed them because my Dell Laptop has experienced multiple issues lately. They took me to a site where they take over my system and then asked me to go get some stuff from Walmart while they work on my computer. Since they were asking me to spend a lot of green, I declined. He then offered to sell me something direct from the manufacturer for hundred bucks. SCAMMER
I wonder now if they have deliberately messed up my Dell, since they had control for a few.
I would bet these are the same hackers that messed up my computer in the first place. Now they are trying to charge me to get it fixed. Scammers
Their are dishonest people around every corner and now they are in my computer and on my phone. No laughing matter.- Caller: Dell (FAKE)

So, I downloaded the C C Cleaner pro and allowed him to remove the corrupted files. I tried calling backand got a number for a survey offering a vacation for two

- Beverly| 1 replyI received a call about 25 minutes ago from a man allegedly representing Dell saying that they believe that over the past few weeks my computer has downloaded malicious viruses, and that I needed to go to my computer so they could access my computer. I told him that wasn't possible as I haven't been accessing my computer much recently, which is true due to a knee injury. Regardless, I asked him from where he was calling, his name, and a phone number where I could reach him as now wasn't a convenient time for me. He said his name is Jay Parker, that he is a Dell Senior Technician in the Technical Department, located in Houston, TX, at (254) 448-4493. I looked to see which number appeared on my caller I.D., and it was 800-425-5055, and this is the third consecutive day in which they have tried to call me. I tried reverse lookup for the 254-448-4493, and saw that it wasn't a valid number. Interesting name for a person who sounds as if he is from India.

- LE replies to AlI have been getting the same call for several weeks. I normally don't answer when I see this number, but sometimes I do. When they give their line that they are from Dell and my computer has been sending messages to them that there is something wrong with it, I say that isn't possible (to get the messages from the computer to Dell) and hang up. I am guessing they got our names and phone numbers from hacking into Dell's database.
- MBI got calls from 2 different numbers, this one and 845-704-5606. Both callers have very heavy accents, the first one I could only understand every other word but both knew my name, cell phone no., and email address. They say they are calling from Dell and told me that someone downloaded the entire contents of my computer and if I turned it on right now they'd log onto it and tell me if that happened and they could fix it for me. The second caller said my computer wasn't allowing Microsoft downloads and they wanted to know if I loaded new software in the last 10 days or so. The second caller said they were contracted to Dell to update Microsoft programs on Dell computers. SCAM.
- ikcarolJust called this # back on my blocked phone....it was a recording to get a free cruise to Bahamas if I answer some questions. These are phishers/scammers going from "Dell" to "Free Trips".

- CWG40 replies to MSDInternet security 101: Never give control of your computer over to someone you do not personally know. Period. Scam's been around for awhile. How could you not recognize the scam? Indian accent should have been a dead giveaway.
- CWG40 replies to JeffreyBetter take your computer to a brick and mortar repair establishments and get it looked at Quicktime! Also, if you had any financial information or account numbers on your computer you should change them. Fast! This is a common scam. They now have all your information you had on your computer.
Axiom:
If anyone with an Indian accent cold-calls you and ( 1) threatens you or ( 2) offers you something,
you know it's a scam, So-- hang up immediately and block the number.
Nothing against Indians or [***]; that's just the way the world is right now.
Corollary
Never wire anyone money if you do not know them personally.
