I have been receiving numerous calls, sometimes early in the morning, from an unknown number.  When I listen to the messages left, there is no name only an 800-428-6050 number for call back.  The lady is very rough and unprofessional.  We all are going through rough times now and are unable to keep up with our bills and payments.  Not only do they call harrasing you but also calling other family members and threatening them if payments are not made.  The tow truck has been to my house and this is very frustrating not having people work with you.  I lost the tips of my fingers (4) due to a sawing accident in 2008 and was lucky that the doctors were ablt to save my fingers.  I have been unable to work because of the accident.  Bill collectors need to be much more understanding of our situations.

I can assure you all that this number is not a fraud.  The only reason this number is contacting you is becuase you have failed to pay your bills and have also failed to meet your monthly obligations. Everyone goes through tough times, but the difference lays in those who take the time to contact their collectors and avoid the calls and repossession requests and those who fail to do so.

Unknown caller is what always comes across. This phone # is for an automated bill pay system for Volkswagen/Audi. It is absolutely real and not a fraud. It asks for your account # BEFORE asking if you want to use your SS.

@Frustrated - The "lady" is a computer recording. Call them and press 0 after pressing 1 to get to a rep. The reps are all based in American call centers and will frequently work with you to help out. I had trouble months and months ago where I was 4 payments behind. We worked out a deal where we just added 4 months to the end of my billing cycle so that the burden was relieved when I needed it most.

@ETG9 - Your "friend" must have left a forwarding number to you or you lived with him at some point. I'd help him out rather than have him get his cars repossessed.

@Martha - This is most likely because the new number you got was someone else's # to their car.

I called the REAL Volkswagen Credit, and they told me they are in NO WAY AFFILIATED with the number 1-800-428-6050!

You are hilarious. Just because you actually have an loan with the legitimate VW DOES NOT mean that these hundreds of cases are not legitimate. This is a scam. And it happened to me.

I can assure you this number is most definitely a fraud. I receive messages from this number on my voicemail at work. I do NOT own a Volkswagen or Audi. I have NEVER owned one, and no one in my family has ever owned one. So why would they be calling me if it wasn't a fraud?

The funny thing is that the latest message (received at 8:30pm, when no one is here) starts off with an actual woman telling me this message is for "[so and so]" - "[so and so]" being male and someone I have never heard of. Then there is a bit of a hissing noise and that same recording starts.

My wife called me asking me to check out this number. She has been contacted several times from an "unknown" number and told to call the number listed below. Fluster she did not have the account number with her so they insisted on her FULL social security number, her phone number, and mailing address. Like others she had to put in her FULL social security number prior to talking with anyone.
First of all this seems to be an excessive amount of information for verification. In reality all that is needed to verify someone is the last 4 numbers of their social and their zip code. The extra detail is far more information that should be trusted to a service rep without a manager or supervisor. If this number is indeed legit I have little faith that the people there are. This is a common way for service reps to steal information while working their jobs. I am not saying that everyone is out to steal information, but this is a very common way for someone to access your information while working in a legitimate capacity. This should not nor ever should be allowed.
I had my wife contact the number on the website and they were unable to confirm or deny that the number given to her was apart of their company. REALLY?
What I am concerned about is them gaining enough information to "steal" or "transfer" the loan to their company. I had something similar happen to me while trying to refinance my student loans. Any company that reverts to these kind of practices are not ones you want to do business with.
If they are indeed legitimate, VWCredit are the most information hungry parasites in the industry. I am looking for a way to report their questionable practices. It stuns me that they are unable to verify that this is indeed their number. All they can tell my wife is, "the recording sounds like us." REALLY? If someone wanted to impersonate them then I think that would be the first thing they would want to do. This shows how unbelievably little VWCredit are concerned about their customers. They own your car so I am guessing they don't really give much thought about you after that. I would recommend transferring your load away from VWCredit all together.
To add insult to injury my wife is trying to change her last name on her registration but VWCredit is not allowing it until they see our marriage certificate despite the fact that my wife has all the paperwork showing that her name has been changed in the eyes of the government. I see this as an attempt to fish for my information and other information that a marriage certificate provides. I am of the opinion that if her name has been legally changed they should not be concerned to why it was changed.
The list of questionable actions taken part by VWCredit has taken apart in. I am not sure what to do about this they seem to really have us.

In the end, asking for the information they did, legitimate or not should never be allowed. Your alternative would be to have your credit dinged and your car repossessed. There needs to be something done about this. I am open to suggestions.

For anyone else receiving calls from this number that does NOT have an account with VW or Audi Financial just call back the 1800 number and when it asks for an account number enter 222222222 or some other random 9 digit number.  It will say it does not recognize the number but then will connect you to an agent or put you on hold until one is available.

I have been receiving calls from this number several times a day.  I have no idea how they got my number because I have no account with VW or any other auto loan company.  I called and spoke to a rep who was quite friendly and looked up my phone number, verified that I was not the owner of the account in question and removed my number from the database.

I received a text message asking me to call 800-428-6050. The text message came from, "129" so I checked here.

This IS IN FACT THE NUMBER FOR AUDI/VOLKSWAGEN CREDIT, IT IS NOT A SCAM. I pay my car payment by calling this number every month and have done so since 2006. Those of you who think this is a 'scam' because the 'ask' you for your SS# are quite wrong. You are given the option to pull up your account information using EITHER your account number of SS#. If you get calls from this number everyday, IT IS BECAUSE YOU NEED TO PAY YOUR CAR PAYMENT.

They left a message for me at my part time job, a phone number that I have never listed on anything because it's a number that people call for IT support. I don't own a VW and thus don't have an account number. seems weird that this number is not listed on the VW Credit web page http://www.vw.com/myvw/vwcredit/contactus/en/us/

This is actually a legit number.
If someone in phone support from VW said it's not, they were mistaken.

I'm a VW leaseholder and received a call from this number.  I didn't give them my account of SSN, but they knew about me and offered to "schedule a payment with the info they already have on file".

This thread made me paranoid enough to get to the bottom of it.

I did some more digging and the better business bureau confirms 1-800-428-6050 IS DEFINITELY a phone number of VW credit.

This is legit! I have my car financed through VW Credit and this is them calling to either get payment information or to confirm insurance. I changed insurance companies and apparently they didn't get the new information that was sent over. Plus if you go past your due date they immediately start calling you. This is not a scam or anyone trying to get your information. It is merely VW Credit attempting to collect a payment or get information on the car that is financed. When I financed my car through VW Credit they asked for 3 references which they will use to attempt to get in contact with the person if they are seriously delinquent on their account. Could be that someone used you as a reference on the credit application but didn't tell you.

this number is very legit. I have been using this number to pay for VW Credit loans since 2003 (I have financed several cars through VW Credit and have NEVER had any issues). While the calls are annoying they are legit and often times are VW trying to obtain payment (I lost my job last year and was late on a few payments) or other information pertinent to your account. You have the option to enter either your SSN or your account # and you can even bypass all of this by pressing 0#. You do not have to enter any information about yourself to be connected to an operator. It is not uncommon for loan companies to verify a name change via a marriage certificate. What is to say that Jane L. Doe on the state issued ID that is being provided used to be Jane L. Smith the account holder? It is for the account holders protection that they request so much information. In order to even change my address in their system they verified quite a bit of information. I have never had any issues with VW Credit selling my information, phishing for information, or anything that you have mentioned. I think perhaps you are being just a bit paranoid. My suggestion would be to tell your wife to pay her payments on time and to give VW Credit the information that they need to change her name in their system and you will stop receiving phone calls. :)

Called our place of business and asked for one of our presidents by name.  The caller said she was with Audi Credit.  I put her in the President's voice mail.

This number is legitimately VW / Audi financial. The automated message saying VW or Audi depends on what type of car you owe them money for. This is the same number printed on my monthly statements from VW. The number shows on my cell phone caller ID every time they call, which is within 7 days of a late payment. I have never called the number back as I handle my payments via the VW credit web site. I was in a financial bind a few years ago and did have to call them as I couldn't make my payment and they emailed me a form to fill out and fax back to them to defer that months payment and add it to the end of my payment cycle. The rep I spoke with was very understanding and helpful.

Ditto. Cosigned loan w/ my son. Always know when he is late with payment b/c the automated calls start coming in every day, since alphabetically I come first. He also makes his payments online. I have never called back, so don't know how that works. They also worked with him a few months ago to defer payments. They can be a nuisance with their calls, but he has never had a problem VW.
People, just b/c you don't own a Volkswagen OR an Audi, doesn't mean this isn't for you. We purchased a SATURN at a VW / Audi dealer. They ran the credit app. thru their VW financing. Think about it... how many dealers sell cars that aren't their mainstay?! Most of them.
And for those of you changing your cell phone numbers, and saying you don't have business with this one or that one... how many people had your number BEFORE you? Maybe they changed it to get away from their debt collecting calls. (Just call the company and explain that to them. But I agree, never need to give out full social, especially if you have no other business with them. It WON'T verify you as a customer anyway.) Reason why I have kept my landline. No one gets my cell except personal, and I am never bothered with these calls on it! Same # for 5 years.
