Apparently I misdialed the number for Southwest Airlines and got this marketing scam. They perpetrate like you are being placed on hold with Southwest, play a recorded message about vacation deals and then someone comes on the line to "give" you a $100 WalMart gift card as a consolation for having to wait. After gaining your credit card number for the $5.95 shipping and handling (it's Southwest Airlines, I can trust them right?) they tell you you will be automatically charged $24.95 per month for some type of membership unless you call to cancel within a specified period of time. I ended up canceling my credit card. BEWARE!

I mistakenly got this number because of my poor vision when trying to reach Southwest Air to resolve a reservation issue.  When they answered, I asked my question & they asked for me to "verify" my Credit Card information.  Awhile into the conversation when "verifying" every aspect of my information, I began to suspect something was wrong.  The extremely heavily accented voice,  to the point of not being able to understand most of what was being said, the over the top reassurances, when I asked why they needed certain info & told them I had never been asked these things by Southwest before, and the detailed information they were trying to gather were unlike anything I had ever experienced with Southwest Air.  When passed on to the "supervisor" to verify, and told I could not talk to anyone above that person, I had had enough and hung up.  Then I went back to the page & used my magnifying glass so I could try, again, to get SoutwestAIr, hoping to get a different agent and saw that I was off 1 number in my dialing.  I immediately canceled my credit card & called the real Southwest Air to report.  They were helpful enough to give me this site to report this on. Though they did not seem to have a system in place to try to actively shut down or officially report a company that seemed to be using the 1 off number from Southwest Air to prey on their customers.  southwest # is 1-800-435-9792.  The number I mistakenly dialed was 1-800-435-9782.

I also accidentally called the wrong number.  Have called Southwest numerous times in the past.  The connection was terrible and you could hear all of the call center noises in the background.  Something I have never experienced before.  Then, like prior callers they stated that I won a vacation voucher or something, but I coudn't clearly understand the representative.  I realized, something was wrong and decided to end the call.  Before I even finished, the call was cut-off.  I mistakenly dials 1-800-435-9782  (CORRECT number is 1-800-435-9792)

Yes 1 digit off from Southwest Airlines.  They pitch a $100 gift card and then ask for a credit card number.  But they really wanted a debit card.  Beware.

    Leave us alone, Please.
Yep--I did the same exact thing.  I miss dialed.
I hung up RIGHT AWAY when I realized that SW Airlines would never say "do you have someone in your family over 50 years of age?"  Shame on me for dialing too quickly.  My Bad.
But---I do have a blocker & if they decide to try to call me back, I will block them.
    Luckily, hasn't happened yet.
    Thank goodness.

I attempted to call south west and also was off by one digit dialed 9782 instead of 9792. I was reassured it was Southwestvand had to verify credit card info to get credit voucher for cancelled trip.,  reluctantly I gave credit card info .  I did question it as I had never been asked before for information except when purchasing a ticket , but I also had never requested a credit for a missed flight before . I repeatedly asked if it was south west and the person did have a strong accent ,I assumed it was a call center representative because it was a early morning call so I requested a supervisor who continued to try to convince me it was south west  . I hung up and called credit card company and cancelled card when I realized I had mis dialed . I was so upset with myself as I knew how these scams work and yet I fell for it . The scam number 1-800-435-9782
    South West is 1-800-435-9792

I also misdialed to make a change to my existing reservation. Gave my name and reservation number. He was going to make the change for me for $100 and asked for my credit card number.  That’s when I got suspicious since I was using points and hung up. I wish there was a way to get this bogus operation shut down.

Similar experience.  Misdialed - my flight was cancelled and I was trying to rebook.  Agent said they would refund my original fare and then charge me for the rebooked fare, which was lower.  Initial thought was that "great, I am paying less".....not so much......They called back and asked me to verify. When I asked the company they were calling from they could only tell me it was the 'billing' dept.....I hung up and called the real SW....

I just did the same thing!  Called about 15 minutes ago & had the wrong #.  All he got was my confirmation #, but that is probably enough.  Best part is that he hung up on me when he told me my price would be $25 less than the quoted online price!

Misdialed southwest and when after 2 rings they said reservations I quickly hung up.   The number quickly called back twice when I didn't answer the first time.   Caller Stated he would help with rescheduling my canceled flight .  When I said I would take one of the new offered flights he demanded 575.00 for the change when u questioned the fee he quickly hung up.   I wouldn't have given any credit card info because I was suspicious from the get go.   I then called southwest to change my flight and to report the scammer claiming they were Southwest reservations center.

Same - they've upped their game.  Somehow on this call they actually canceled my reservation as I requested!

My wife had a similar experience of misdialing 800 435 9782 instead of the real Southwest Airline number 800 435 9792. She got an email from ticketingdesk@airfarecharge.com with a number to call at 1 800-970-9193. After calling the correct Southwest Airline number 800 435 9792 she got a confirmation that her flight was reserved. I checked my credit card account to find that besides the charge for the airline ticket an additional $110 was charged. I immediately called my bank and alerted them of the suspected scam described by the many people listed above. The bank representative said to wait until the charge goes through before any action. Needless to say, I have to wait and then confirm that indeed she has an airline ticket and also to verify that the $110 charge has not been processed. Another worry is that these presumptive scammers now have my wife's credit card number.
