- MntDew82Their number just showed up as 800-451-7269 on my caller ID; I firmly believe legitimate businesses don't block their names. I do not have an account with PenFed, and I have had my phone number for 10 years, so it shouldn't be a legitimate call about a late payment or unusual charge to my non-existant account. Also, no message left, which is another sign of a scam call. Just another reason to NEVER give any kind of personal / account information to anyone that calls you - if you have an account with them they will already have your information.

call from 800-851-7269 [no caller id]

Called PenFed, who transferred me to their Security department. Security stated they did not contact me nor tried, so I too would suspect the number as a fraud.- Caller: unk
- miradorradit is legit PFCU. Just call it back. No worries..
- DJRecieved "robo call" claiming to be from Pentagon Federal Credit Union. Asked to call 1-800-451-7269 to discuss one of our accounts.
Contacted PFCU, they do not have that number in service.- Caller: CLAIMED TO BE Pentagon Federal Credit Union
- JSummary: It was a valid call from PFCU, but the point here is that you should NEVER call an unfamiliar number. Call the company directly.
Details:
Received a robo call from this number stating that I needed to discuss an account. It told me to contact the very same number which was listed on my caller ID, which seemed fishy to to me. I opted to call the published PFCU customer service line instead to clarify if they did indeed call me. They informed me that there was an issue with one of my accounts, which was quickly resolved.- Caller: Pentagon Federal Credit Union
- RobTHIS IS A NUMBER THAT PENTAGON FEDERAL CU USES TO CALL IF YOU'RE DELINQUENT ON A MORTGAGE PAYMENT. I thought I was current with my mortgage payment, but I wasn't, and they called and left me a message.
However, I didn't realized this at first, and I believed all you paranoid people and sent a message to PenFed telling them there was a scam. Here's the official PenFed reply confirming this IS THEIR NUMBER, and also letting me know my payment was past due:
From: PenFed Member Service <info@hq.penfed.org>

- Rich in CA replies to JSReceived a call and message from this number. I called PenFed's regular number and they confirmed it is ther number. A mix up on PenFed's end but apparently this would be a call regarding a delinquent account as some have mentioned in previous posts.
- skc replies to JSI called 800-451-7269. The person said it was Pentagon Federal Credit Union and asked for my social or account number. I gave them the last 4 and they could not use it. He wanted my complete SSN or complete Acct#. I was uncomfortable with this and asked him to verify that he was truly a PFCU person, but told me this was the number for delinquency. This is where I caught him. I have NO delinquent accts with PFCU so I told him I would call the number I always call to verify what he was saying. I called my usual number and told her why I was calling and she said that was a phishing call and that I did the right thing. She also confirmed that I had NO delinquent accounts. Report this number!!!!!
- MyNameThis is Pentagon Federal Credit Union delinquincy control calling to collect a debt. If they can't reach their intended recipient then they will call coworkers, neighbors and family members. In doing so, they have no qualms about giving anyone who answers sensitive and personal information about who they are trying to reach.

- a PenFed member from WA replies to JSthis is the PenFed collections department.
I was mystified why they called, but turns out I was a day late submitting my online credit card bill payment (takes a few days to go through) and it hadn't shown up yet.
the lady was very courteous and I can confirm it is not a scam.
if you get a call from this number and are in doubt, call the main 1-800 listed on their website and ask to speak to the collections department. it is internal PenFed staff, not an external debt collector as someone else guessed. - NuvaThis number keep calling claiming they are from the united

- Ron MI didn't return the call from the 800 451-7269 number, but did call the main PenFed number. The lady there verified the 451-7269 number as a valid PenFed number and upon checking my Visa accounts found that one was overdue. I checked and indeed it was overdue. I made immediate payment before late charges became due.
This IS a valid PenFed number!! Thanks PenFed!!!!- Caller: PenFed

- CWG40| 1 replyThe large number of shillers basically posting to tell everyone how "legit" this number is, is pretty strong evidence of a scam.
This number is most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real, is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. I count about 32 out of 54 entries on this thread as shills.
At a 60% shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam. At least that's the way I see it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go even higher.
This scam is well documented. Simply google it out. Based on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.
T hese type of calls follow a similar pattern. They all claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions. Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”. All with the same type of postings. All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made. Or something similar. They all ask for personal or personal financial information.
Just part of the shillers criminal MO.
I've noticed the shill posters often use the same turns of phrase. Same old, same old verbiage telling everyone how "legit" the calls are.
Personally I think the group or groups posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both. They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.
In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you. If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.
Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far. (That I’ve been able to find.)

- JLSI received a call from 800-451-7269 with a recording saying it was Pentagon Federal Credit Union and to call back in reference to one of my accounts. I've banked with PFCU for over 30 years and my cell # is listed as a contact, nevertheless, I looked up the number and read the reports- some of which indicated the number was legitimate. I decided to call PFCU using a trusted number and found that 800-451-7269 is a valid number and the call was a courtesy call concerning a payment. If you bank with PFCU and get a call claiming to be from them, just call back using a contact number from a trusted source- the person answering the phone will be able to help you out.
