This phone number appeared on a mailer designed to look like some type of official document with an Alaska Air and an Avis logo in large print on the inside area.  Sketchy wording attempts to make you think that you have won 2 round trip airline tickets, but you must call 800-470-1062 within 72 hours.  Time share?

I got this mailer too. In a way, it looks like a W2 form (and it is a Tax season). This scam is not affiliated with Alaska Air, but rather your local travel agency. It seems to be the one when you call and they sell the c..p out of you. So much for a free flight.

    To add:

The envelope prints a USPS mail tampering warning to add officiousness to the look of the mailer.
Mine came from Daytona Beach, FL espousing free tickets from Alaska Airline.  Every good Pacific NW person knows Alaska doesn't have promotion offices in Florida.

The FORM number on the envelope cover is the current year.

On the inside, the message includes: "If you respond in 72 hours you will get an Avis 7 day free car rental."  But, no where does it restrict the REAL time you have to respond.  So you could take 6 months to respond and the only thing you don't get is the car rental.  There is no other deadline.

The alleged free tickets are to a MAJOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.  I guess that means no flights to Grand Junction, kids.

The back of the TRAVEL ITINERARY finally disclaims any connection to Alaska Airlines or Avis and claims the promotion is from a local travel agency.  (Mine is Utopian Travel in Beaverton, OR.)

But, what I love the most, which first tipped me off to the scam, was that the proposed complimentary tickets are for Alaska Air flight #781 from Beaverton, OR.  Only one problem: there is NO airport in Beaverton.

Hysterically stupid!  In this day and age, where the airlines WANT you to e-ticket, what's the value to them to have a travel agent do the booking?  Nada.  Putting two and two together, the travel agent undoubtedly wants to give me RT tickets to an INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT so they can overcharge me (mark-up the fees to make a profit) and send me on a trip over seas.

    Isn't that generous of them?

I received the same official-looking mailer. Called them and asked how they got my info.  They said they were calling on behalf of a Beaverton company for a promotion.  They wanted me to sit thru a presentation that they specified was NOT a time share and as thanks would provide the tickets.  I told them I was offended by the marketing ploy and would not do business with the company.  The call taker was very polite and said she would pass along the info to the company.  Not that the company will care...
