- Gerry| 2 repliesClaimed to be an "early warning fraud alert" from Citibank and wanted to "verify some charges". However, could not tell me what charges he wanted to verify, so I gave no info.
- Bob Nicholson replies to JKThis is a legit number from Costco Citi credit card fraud prevention trying to verify recent charges on your card.
- Ray replies to JKthe number is legitimate. It alerts you to potentially fraudulent use of your Costco Citi VISA card
- citicorp fraudGot a text that a Patricia with account ending in 6011 was trying to charge something at homedepot.com out of my living area. And asked, "is this a correct charge, answer yes/no." I answered no and my cell phone warned there will be a charge. Gave this number to call along with a case number. Instead of calling the 1800 number I called the costco card on the back. There is no such charge or account number. This is fraud and trying to phish for data as well as charging for text.
- Caller: Citi costco early warning

- tobyGot a text message from 956-86 stating my Citi Bank visa was being used fraudulently at Costco by one John Smallwood for an account ending 2255. It went on to say to call this 800 number. A short time later I received a voice call from 8004763303, rang, but didn't leave a message. I don't have a Citibank card. Never have. This is clearly a bogus fraud.
As for all the comments about the number being legitimate, why would a person who called the number and found it legitimate and resolved their problem be coming here to post about the number being legitimate and deny it's a fraud in the first place? How would they even know the number was suspect if they found it "legitimate"? Who does that? Answer: They are clearly shills.
If in doubt, call the Citi bank number on your credit card, NOT these bogus numbers. The people behind them and the "positive" comments are clearly frauds.- Call type: Scam suspicion

- JoeCall was valid from Citi/Costco. No request for SSN, credit card numbers, bank account data, etc. Fraudulent transactions included a $0.59 test charge and two $200+ charges to Krispy Kreme and Burger King. Citi put an immediate hold on that card and is overnighting a new card to me. Just wanted to give the Citi folks kudos for everything they did,
- Caller: CitiCostcoCards
- Call type: Valid
- KenCall with report of possible fraudulent charges to my card. Called them back at number on cc back, sure
enough someone was trying to have a good time on my dollar. They blocked my card.- Caller: Citi Costco

- Ken replies to HB| 1 replyWrong called cc they said 1-800-476-3303 is the fraud division number.
- Vreceived a call yesterday from this number with message asking to call back regarding abnormal activities of my Citi credit card. Called Citi and confirmed that this number is a scammer.
- GReceived text message only, no actual call. After reading comments, will ignore this message. I have a regular store Costco card but do not have their Citi Visa card. Also they do not have my cell phone number since I have never given it out. I am assuming this is a scam or they called a wrong number.
- Caller: Says Citi Costco Fraud
- Tygerkat replies to KenThat doesn't mean the number isn't being spoofed by scammers.
People - never give some random caller personal information! Instead, hang up and call a known number for them, such as the one on your card or statement. Phone numbers are too easily spoofed to trust a random caller asking for personal information. - orlandothis is costco citi card trying to verify your purchase.
- DonDIt is a Costco Visa card. Checking on suspicious charges.
- Larry replies to Gerry| 1 replyCalled the no on the back of my card to verify, and indeed Costco Citi did try to contact me for a fraudulent charge. This text message is legitimate.
- CWG40| 1 replyCommon 800 number scam.
The large number of shillers basically posting to tell everyone how "legit" this number is, is pretty strong evidence of a scam.
This number is most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real, is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.
Thirty-five entries in this thread and I count 17 as shill posts.
At a 49 % shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam. At least that's the way I see it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go even higher.
This scam is well documented. Simply google it out. Based on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.
These type of calls follow a similar pattern. They all claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions. Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”.
All with the same type of postings. All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made. Or something similar. They all ask for personal or personal financial information.
Just part of the shillers criminal MO.
I've noticed the shill posters often use the same turns of phrase. Same old, same old verbiage telling everyone how "legit" the calls are.
Personally I think the group or groups posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both. They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.
In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you. If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.
Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far. (That I’ve been able to find.)
