- Kelly| 2 repliesAre they legitimate?
- Caller: Unclaimed refunds
- MikeHuntleton replies to KellyLooks like a gimmick about unclaimed money from Texas and they want to split it with you for their fee. On their website unclaimed.info it says you should go to refundscheduler.com or call this number. Seems strange to me they want to send a Notary Public to your home and that there is a limited time.
Last time I heard a Notary Public making house calls, it was some shady loan attempt they pressure you into signing, then tell you that you only have a few days to cancel. Kind of stupid because if you don't sign right away, you have as much time as you need to look over those papers.
This is the Q&A they have, so read it and you decide if it sounds legitimate or not:Quote:Q: Why did I get this notice? Why did you send me this postcard? Etc….
A: We researched public records and found that you should have $$$$ which we can help you recover before the state of Texas mandated deadline.
Q: When is the deadline?
A: I don’t have exact date but I know this notice was sent with adequate time to recover your money.
Q: Where is my refund coming from?
A: From a public agency within the state of Texas. The Notary Public will have the details.
Q: What is your fee?
A: We work on a contingency basis only. We split the recovery evenly with you.
Q: How do I know this is not a scam?
A: Because we work on a contingency basis only. We never ask for any money upfront and we can only earn our fee after your money is recovered.
Q: How long have you been in business?
A: Our president has been working these type refunds for 30+ years and is professionally licensed by the state of Texas. His company is almost 20 years old.
Q: Why can I not find much information about your company online?
A: We are in the information and services sector and offer our services only to people that we have found to have money coming back to them; therefore, we do not advertise on the internet.
Q: I have more specific questions about the process:
A: Your Notary Public will be able to answer any and all questions during at your appointment.
Seems shady with the pressure tactic, because why would they only contact people who don't have much time left to decide what to do and need a Notary Public to make the 'sale'?
You can go right to https://www.claimittexas.gov or https://www.usa.gov/UNCLAIMED-MONEY and find out if you have anything unclaimed.
Some information on Unclaimed Refund scams:
https://kahnlitwin.com/blogs/tax-blog/irs-war ... claimed-refunds - Rebecca replies to KellyI received the same letter. The only information I've been able to find on it is on this site. I can't even find them under the Better Business Bureau. I looked under scam tracker there but they're not listed but that doesn't mean that they don't change their name frequently.
I would err on the side of caution because you're not really losing anything you're just not gaining anything.
