The IRS doesn't initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or social media channels to request personal or financial information. In addition, IRS does not threaten taxpayers with lawsuits, imprisonment or other enforcement action. Recognizing these telltale signs of a phishing or tax scam could save you from becoming a victim.
THE IRS WON'T:- Call you about tax debt without sending an Official Notice by U.S Mail FIRST
- Call to demand immediate payment using a prepaid debit card, gift Card or wire transfer
- Issue an Arrest Warrant because you owe taxes.
- Threaten to have the police, immigration or any Agency arrest you
- Ask for credit/debit card numbers over the phone
- Make deals to avoid arrest or criminal prosecution
- Tell you theres a Law Suit AND an Arrest Warrant, since its counterintuitive and conflicting
Every TaxPayer has the Right to question or appeal the amount claimed you owe.
