Hang up.  Caller ID = 1ST ENERGY CO.   The number is the correct one for PENELEC (a subsidiary of 1st Energy) Customer Service, HOWEVER I've verified that legitimate Caller IDs don't use punctuation.  I'm guessing this is another attempt at the Utility Scam.

Received a call from this number just prior to noon.  Caller ID listed "1st Energy Co." Left no message.  . . . This is a legitimate phone number for Penelec, which is a subsidiary of 1st Energy.  However, the number is for those who need assistance paying their electric bill.  We do not need assistance, and there is no reason that we should be receiving a call from this number.  Moreover, the fact that no message was left, and that the call came in at a time during which scammers like to phone, makes it suspicious. Consequently, I wouldn't be surprise if this is a scam, as the previous poster suspected.  We are getting many spoofed phone numbers these days.  So, beware!

These vermin called three times today! They also tried earlier and used a legit number for PECO. I told PECO about it and they said they were well aware of it. Are they doing anything about it? Of course not!

As a public utility they can pressure agencies to take action. It's not rocket science.

I received 2 calls within 1/2 hour of each other from this number. I did not answer and they left no messages. I also am not a Penelec customer. I think it’s a spam call.

Called in the middle of the afternoon.  Caller ID listed "First Energy Co."    ...I can now confirm that this call is a SCAM.  A robocaller message was left on our voicemail.   The message never identified what electric company was calling.  All it talked about was a 15% discount on your electric bill, and then the message implied that this would be the last time that you would have to take advantage of this offer.  Both of these talking points have been used multiple times in other robocalls which we have received that were nothing but either electric utility scams or medicare scams.  So, don't answer!  . . . If you need to talk with First Energy, call them directly!  This is an ELECTRIC UTILITY SCAM,  which is spoofing a legitimate phone number.

These people are relentless. Have called our house at least 25 times in the last two days. I have informed them I am not a Penelec customer and am on the do not call list. I had enough and reported to FTC, but it probably won't help. They just called again and swore at my husband. Sick of them!!!

This type of  desperate activity strikes me as suspicious, The comments in here reliably indicate that these losers are crooks fishing for victims and re best put on CALL BLOCK.

Yes! You've very quickly caught onto the "number 1 clue", in the caller ID readout of (1ST ENERGY CO); This is a scam call that is going around using the spoofing of the real (800) 545-7741 First Energy Corp # in their scam.
If Anyone see's " 1ST ENERGY CO " on the Caller ID, Do NOT pick up, it's a Scam Call. Just ignore it; If The Real - First Energy Corp, had an issue, They would send a letter, Or a Service Truck to Test Meter.

Illiterate robocall text: "Hi.  This is McKenzie about your electric bill.  If you didn't missed any payments, you are eligible for 15% discount."   Caller IDs that spoof legitimate company names and numbers can't be black-listed, blocked or labeled as SPAM.  HOWEVER, an ID with a period in it is spoofed.

Everyone should be calling their representatives to put pressure on the telecomm companies. They need to stop providing scammers an entrance into our homes. Tell the FCC do do their jobs and protect the consumers and not the big companies. That’s what can be done.

So, what you want is for the phone carriers to monitor the calls then decide which calls get into your home?  I think that option is already available in Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, and a host of other countries that I'm betting you would never want to live in.
