- BouthiVanI'm from the Montréal area. They have called twice. On the second time, they left a message on my answering machine saying that they are "American Express". It is more than likely an offer for their credit card.
- Caller: American Express
- Call type: Telemarketer
- MikeAmerican Express customer service - was legitimate call (not telemarketing).
- Caller: American Express
- Call type: Unwanted
- Duh| 1 replyNo. It's not telemarketing. It's the New Accounts dept. of AMEX. They would only call you if someone in your house made an application and they need further info to process it.
- ERICWHY DO THEY NEED MY ACCOUNT NUMBER FROM MY EXISTING BANK IN ORDER FOR THEM TO VERIFY MY ADDRESS AND TO PROCESS MY APPLICATION FOR AN AMERICAN EXPRESS CREDIT CARD?
- Caller: AMERICAN EXPRESS
- Eric| 1 replyI just spoke to the guy... they are collecting extra info to protect your identity... they want to make sure it's not some scam to get a card under your name.. so they go in depth...
They had emailed me based on the application I did, so unless they got my app, they wouldn't know it was crap and I made the request from Costco - John replies to DuhNo telemarketer
- Luel replies to EricHi Eric, I had the same story with you. Just wanna know if you get amex card after providing account number?
- Cit's a scam - I have nothing to do with AE - they don't
know me at all. Maybe I got some trav. cheques some
years ago, but no phone #, and in any case this came in
on a business phone. I didn't answer, just looked it up in
Google and ended up here.
Thanks for the info! - THARJINIE PATKUNAMhi if you have any additional informations or questions.please call 1-800-575-2273 within 60 days of the date on letter thank.

- HHCYes it is American Express, for the new account opening department
- Caller: American Express
- jjeReceived a letter in mail box with exactly the same wording as the SMS above mentioned. Did not respond, Never asked for any application. Also they sent a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt. I did not take it. It will be returned to them. I really think it is pure marketing.
- opStolen private information? Never have had business with American express, but they call my husband asking me and sending me the letters
- Caller: 1 800 575-2273
- LuPPI received this call from American Express today regards to my recent credit card application (yes I did submit an application 2-3 days ago). They asked me for more information such as my age, which auto lease/finance I am with etc. to verify I really made the application but not someone else. Right after I answer these questions, they say my application is approved and will receive my two cards in 3-10 days (I never mention I apply a supplementary card for my wife but they knows I applied for two cards). I don't think it is a scam. But if you do believe you didn't make any application and still receive the call. It is possible your identity was used by someone.
- Caller: American Express
- StephanieI received a call today. I asked for th call back number and they gave me a reference #. Said it was AE following up on my application. Which I did submit 2-3 days ago.
- Caller: American Expreaa
- AlexSame thing. Letter by post and had to give my driving license info that were introduced in the system for verification and presumably sent back to AE. Letter confirmed that I opened an account with them and ID was necessary for verification. Called them to confirm, but didn't understand any more details about this issue. They don't give info, I didn't want to provide more info that wasn't written on the letter. On the letter my address is incomplete and I didn't apply for an account in the last several months, but I did apply last year and was refused. I still can't say if this legit or scam.
- CyThis is definitely a scam.
- Caller: fake american express
- JimBThis is a legitimate call. As others have pointed out, it is from the American Express accounts department. I was sceptical so I asked for a reference number so I could call back in. I provided the reference number to the inbound agent and spoke to a CSR about the matter.
- Caller: American Express
- Call type: Valid
- Samantha TAlso got a call from this number. I answered it the 2nd time and there was just dead air, so I hung up and came to check it out. I have not applied to American Express for a card and I won't because of previous experience. I will not give out any information on finances, driver's license or anything else until I am absolutely sure who those people are. I think it is a scam!!
- SeanThis isn't a scam, it's the New Accounts department. If you're receiving a call from this number and aren't setting up an account someone has your social info.
