- Jennifer Courtemanche| 3 repliesCaller ID will show this as TOLL FREE CALL, but the number for this automated call belongs to First Credit Services, Inc., a debt collector company which is attempting to collect an "overdue balance" with Vivint Security Systems (Vivint Inc.), formerly APX.
We attempted to close our account with Vivint in August 2011 because, as of July 31, 2011, my full-time salary as a teacher ran out, and I was no longer employed full-time (and we didn't have room in the budget for Vivint's monthly $43.29 monitoring fee). The representative with whom I spoke only gave us two options--neither of which was feasible: pay off the remaining balance on the "contract"--$521.09 (the terms "unemployed" and "no disposable income" apparently didn't register with him ... not sure where he thought I would get money to pay off a balance that large when we had no room in the monthly budget for $43.29 for them) or have someone else to take over the account (not an option for us, either).
Since Vivint was unable to work with us on our terms, I was forced to request that our bank "stop payment" so that Vivint could no longer automatically debit their monthly monitoring fee. (Even though we informed Vivint twice via email that we considered our account with them closed, they apparently continued to "monitor" the system. They even tried to bill us two months in a row for "monitoring" the system.)
The First Credit Services, Inc. collection letter included a REINSTATEMENT OFFER (as if we would EVER do business with Vivint by choice again): "In a sincere effort to get you back as a valuable customer Vivint is willing to allow you to reinstate your monitoring contract. ... Should you decide not to accept the Reimbursement offer our collection efforts will continue for the full balance due listed above until paid in full (translation: We will dog you until you pay Vivint the money they want)."
As a bonus incentive to accept the Reinstatement offer, the letter indicated "YOUR NAME AND THIS DEBT WILL BE REPORTED TO THE CREDIT BUREAUS and this debt will remain on your credit report." (Wasn't THAT nice of them?)
I am unlikely to gain full-time teaching employment until August of this year (2012) at the earliest. Even once employed full-time, Vivint will NOT get their $521.09 all at once (maybe $50 a month for TEN months). (Ooh! $25 a month for TWENTY months sounds even better ...)
If ANYONE from Vivint EVER approaches you, knocks on your door, etc., with an offer, DON'T do it!- Caller: First Credit Services, Inc.

- SherryI had an account with Vivint and paid all payements on time. In July 2011 I sold the house and the new family was to take over the payments and contract. I am still being harrassed by Vivint to pay these monthly payments because they say I signed up for 5 year contract.....I no longer have the house and refuse to pay for the new family to use the service and me pay for it.....let them do what they want but I will not pay!
