- J DoeSuspected scammer. Been getting them a lot lately. They took about 10 seconds to say hello and when I replied annoyed they hung up.
- Sam| 1 replyThis guy called me and INSISTED that he was from HP and that he had "reports" indicating that my HP computer was "having problems." Sounded to be from India. He wanted me to let him gain remote access to my computer. I told him I knew he was a scam...he even said that he has "my license number" and a bunch of other BS. I don't even own an HP. I told him I was reporting him and he said "Go ahead." Total jerk.
- AlexisThis number has called me twice and does not leave a message. When I called back i was directed to a makeshift menu that barely works. Every extension I tried to contact directed to Indian sounding operators who were very rude!
- Caller: Fake HP
- Kim| 3 repliesI got two calls from this number. They are spoofing HP Support. When you initially Google it, you see a website that says it's HP support but if you look at the URL, it is clearly not HP support. Here is the website: http://www.hptechnicalsupportphonenumbersusa.com/
The website looks very convincing. They have clearly put a lot of thought and time into this scam.
Upon calling HP at the appropriate number, I asked if they had called me. Of course not. The appropriate tech support number is: 1 (800) 474-6836
I did pick up the phone the second time to see what they are trying to get. The guy asked me to sit down at my computer so he could show me all of the viruses that I had. I have none and I am quite sure of this. And there is no way that HP would call me about viruses on my computer. They would not know. I asked the guy how much money he wants for getting rid of the viruses and he responded; "we will get to that". At that point, I gave him a piece of my mind. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS- Caller: Scam Artist
- Call type: Prank
- Kim replies to SamI had a similar experience today.
- Bryce| 2 repliesDefinitely a scam. Carried on a conversation with them to kind of mess with them, after a while I lied and said I didn't own an HP and they instantly hung up. Have some fun with them! Just don't let them in your comp.
- ToniCalled 2 times in 1 hour. I called them back and went to customer support to have them remove my number. The lady said they haven't been calling me and then hung up. Great customer service. There is a HP website supporting this number but is a scam....
- SJR| 1 replyReceived telephone call from 800-620-8060 on my hard-wired home telephone, which is registered on the donotcall, gov website. The connection was not crisp. The caller was a live person having a heavy accent, which sounded similar to one from India. He said I had a virus, that he could delete, if I allowed him remote access to my computer.
I attempted to Google his telephone number, 800-620-8060. The following websites turned up, which appeared to authenticate this telephone number to be legitimate:

My question: How do I report the above websites to be fake, displaying dishonest information.- Caller: UNAVAILABLE
- Call type: Telemarketer
- BettyI've received three calls within a week. I never answer calls when I don't recognize the number, but will later Google it. It points to an 'almost' genuine-looking HP help site. Very sneaky and clever. I blocked the call and cleared out my browsing history after seeing the website.
- Caller: Unknown scammer.
- Bobocalled no message, If for real would leave message from tech support even though I didn't call them.
- DarrylI keep getting similar calls, sometimes with slightly different numbers. I called the real HP tech line and they told me that they are fully aware of this problem. Furthermore, the unfortunate thing about this type of scam is that some of the real techs who work for HP are probably, if not unquestionably, supplying HP customer's phone numbers to scammers. So, while HP is fully aware of their internal problem, not much has been done to stop it. I for one cannot understand why a company would look the other way while their own people are dealing in stolen phone numbers.

- Tbone9974| 1 replyUnfortunately I let this scammer access my computer. He tried his best to get me to buy something to repair the computer. He even got a bit snippy. I tried calling the number back, says it wasn't available. Definitely a scam, not sure what to do to fix this....

- BrentI just got a call from them. I laughed at them and told him he was full of crap and I wasn't stupid. He got smart and was VERY persistent and rude, so I told him I would hunt him down and hurt him..lol

- Natalia replies to Tbone9974Yeah this happened to me with my first computer (not with this number), and I did end up having a something wrong with my computer when they called (my volume was screwy) They got access, "fixed it" and charged me a hundred dollars. It lasted for a day and went right back to the problem. I never felt like such an idiot before, even though they were pretty convincing at the time. Thats why Im so thankful for sites like this. ALSO I did find a pretty good app for smartphones that scan these websites and block and/or identify spam calls (its called "Hiya")
- Alisa Smith| 1 replyGuy said he was from HP and was getting error messages from my computer; even had the number off the back of the computer; Took me to a site showing a bunch of error messages saying it could not be removed when I pressed the delete button or when he tried to delete after he took remote access of my computer; Offered plans starting at $149. I told him I had virus protection and CC cleaner and Malware Bytes on my computer in addition to McAfee virus protection; He said none of that would protect my system and that I had a hacker that had gained access to my computer; he wanted to lock my computer until I talked back to him after I told him I would need to speak with my husband first; my phone number is on the DO NOT Call registry also;
- Caller: Said he was from HP
- Call type: Prank
- Slim replies to Alisa Smith>> he took remote access of my computer <<
Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised your ID on Facebook or other social site(s), and perhaps on shopping sites.
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused
What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1. Pull the cables on the computer, or otherwise disable it, so it cannot access the internet.
2. Change ALL passwords stored on the computer.
3. Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4. Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything.
5. Inform your bank and credit card companies.
6. Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7. Backup non-executable personal, data files to an external storage device. (Executable files might be infected).
8. You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
9. Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you.
10. Connect to the internet only AFTER all the above have been done.
11. Change the passwords on all online accounts. Even better - access a "safe", uninfected computer, and change your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.
NOTE:
If your computer set a "Restore Point" while it was infected, any "System Restore" you make will re-infect your computer. Suggest you delete any potentially infected restore points and avoid setting such restore points until after your computer has been thoroughly cleaned!
You fell for one scam, and might be susceptible to others mentioned on this site:
http://phonehelp.2truth.com/facts.html
Read that info to educate and help protect yourself!
Honest computer companies do NOT cold-call people, or cause popups from websites to tell them their computers need fixing!
Some scammers even have websites, and falsely advertise they are associated with popular software packages or computer companies; so do NOT believe a "we will fix your computer remotely" site, and allow them access to your computer!
