Yes it is a valid Cabela's phone number.  Turns out there were two attempted purchases 1100 and 1300 miles away respectively.  Thank you Cabela's for watching out for us.

Received a call from this number, I called the number on my statement and was told that they put a hold on my card because of a questionable charge. I verified that I did make an international payment, they released the hold on my card. I would not have been able to use my card if I had not called. Great job of protecting your customers.

Cabela's fraud detection check.  They were just calling to confirm that I made some recent transactions, which I did.  Totally legit and I'm glad they're watching out for me.

Caller wanted to verify a recent charge to a Cabela's VISA.   Because of the many request for details, I didn't trust the Caller ID 1-800-633-2582, hung up and called the Customer Service Number on the VISA card.  It was Cabela's and they confirmed that they had, within the hour, called to verify a purchase that I had made, online, within the same hour.  I acknowledged the order.  Cabela's VISA CS rep. then said the transaction was with a person or company in CHINA.  I immediately asked for that transaction to be blocked.  All should now be OK.  When I placed the online order, I received a "print a copy of your order" instruction, and I did.  I double checked my copy of the printed order and, only then, noticed that the name, address and phone number of the seller were nowhere to be found!  The absence of that info. was well camouflaged by the page layout and the abundant, but unnecessary, info.  In my case, 1-800-633-2582 was Cabela's Security.  It worked out good for me, because only then, I found that I had placed an order with a very suspicious contact in China!

This is not a scam. This is cabelas fraud department and they caught a purchase that I did not make. I was concerned when they called so I also called the number on the back of the card to make sure it was them and they verified yes it was. Thank you cabelas fraud!

got the call-regular Cabela's cc user-especially online-fourth time the card has been hacked.  makes me wonder who's minding the house internally or whether their software encryption is being hacked regularly because it is so vulnerable or whether this is endemic to the credit system?

It is Cabelas club visa fraudulent charge team. I thought it was as a telemarketer and did not answer ( they did not leave a VM). A few days later I tried to use the card and was told my card was on hold. The fraudulent charge team was trying to verify some charges (Someone was trying to use my card). Thanks to Cabelas Visa for catching the fraudulent charges

I received a call stating they were with Cabelas Fraud Unit, I returned call. They reported somebody attempted to use my credit card number twice, the first time a $400 internet purchase was approved, the second time they attempted Cabelas stopped the card and turned it off. I haven't used my card in months. At time of phone call, they cancelled the card and issues a new one.

About 38  calls on this thread and I count  22 or about 58 percent , as shill posts.  The shillers, of course are basically posting to  tell everyone how "legit" this number is.

This number is  most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real,   is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.

This  scam is well documented.  Simply google it out.

There is a similar pattern to other fake calls.  They all  claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, CC cards, etc;  as well as Credit Unions.  All with the same type of   postings.

Just part of the shillers  criminal MO.

I've noticed the  shill posters often use the same turns of phrase.  Same old, same old verbiage telling  everyone how "legit" the calls are.

Personally I think the group or groups  posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both.  They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.

In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you.

Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far.  (That I’ve been able to find.)
