I received a fake check for $822.15 and a request to send back $500.00, so I can claim my prize of $8,221.50.  Scammer. Eric Young and C. Witherspoon names on the letter.

Turn the letter and all contents over to your local Postmaster.

I received the same check and letter. Just curious what steps you took to confirm it was a scam. Did you try to deposit the check? I tried calling the phone number on the letter with a call ID block, but the call wouldn't go through.

The check is from City National Bank, which is a valid bank. The check shows a valid routing number, but there is no payer information. I called the bank on the check, City National Bank, but they won't verify anything over the phone.
