Calling to verify online (wire) transactions.
I feel comfortabe that this was really chase bank.

1.  Exactly how did you verify the number was really that of Chase Bank?

2.  Why did you search for the number on a phone complaint site if you were positive the number was legitimate?

After receiving message claiming to be JP Morgan Chase calling to verify a transaction on my bank account-Called number back but didn't seem right so hung up. Then called Chase Bank # listed on their banking website. Customer service confirmed that 800-691-8086 is not a Chase phone number. 4/11/16.

They called from this number but claimed they were calling from 877-691-8086.

claimed to be Chase Fraud; reported a fraudulent check; indeed our records showed it was fraudulent BUT check cleared via a different bank and Chase is not our current bank.  very strange call

Just received a call this morning stating some of the same sentiments here... “calling to verify wire transactions” etc.

Called Chase via the number on their website, and reported the number to fraud. Chase said the number is not one of theirs.

This number is legit. I confirmed it by calling Chase and they said this is the number for the fraud department. My identity was compromised and they notified me that the account had been closed.

The number might be legit, but people want to know who the caller is. Anyone can spoof a legitimate number these days, so you can't just believe it is Chase calling just because the number is on your caller ID.
Always verify it is actually Chase trying to contact you by calling them back from a published number from their website, your Statement or from the back of your card.

If you already know who called you, why would you look up the phone number?

That doesn't mean all calls from this number are actually from Chase. Or have you somehow never heard of phone number spoofing? And why are you even here? You already know to whom this number allegedly belongs so there is no logical reason for you to be here.
