Yep, it's from Avenue and not spam.  If you shop at Avenue, at the checkout counter, the sales associate asks you for your phone number, and if you give it to them, they will have a computer call you with an automated message about a sale or coupon.

I just got the call as well (8/1/2007, 3:52 pm Central US Time), in the  Houston area.  It was silent for me as well.  Probably a bug in their calling program.  My wife does shop at Avenue, so it could be from Avenue.

I just received a call on my cell (it's my ONLY phone) and I didn't answer it as I am near my maximum monthly minute limit. Googled the # and here I am! So glad I didn't waste a minute to hear nothing as others are reporting. I love this store, but I hate the use of phone marketing.

Regardless of whether or not you give them your number at the register, doesn't give them the right to call you especially if you don't have a credit card with them or your permission.  My phone number that they called has been registered with the Do Not Call List and obviously they didn't bounce their phone list again the DNC list before sending automated calls.  I think they could be in hot water for that!!!!

I just shopped the Avenue yesterday and yes they called today.  When I picked up it was silent.  I called the number back to have them remove my number.  It was a automated message - you have the choice to hear the special that they called about or you can request that your number be removed from the "Avenue Calling List" - I had my number removed.  Hopefully that will be the end of these calls.

Bizarre caller reference. Wondered what it was:  LA0-695-3198.  Oh, Avenue.  I'll make sure and tell them next time I'm there to take me off of the list. They already spam me 4-5 x a day with email coupons.

I also got a call. I am on the Do Not Call List.
I called Avenue to investigate, and finally got to past the usual line of defense.
I stated that I do not shop there, yet I received an unsolicited phone call.
They initially blamed it on a potential error on the attendant entering the phone numbers at a store.

I didn't bite.
I told them I wanted proof and a paper trail with respect to when and where this error occurred.

The loophole in the National Do Not Call Registry is that a company can call you IF you do business with them.   Unfortunately,being a customer of Avenue gives them the "go ahead" to call.

--similar situation:  on the Do Not Call list; received automated recording telemarketing for Avenue; not only has no one bought anything there, no one here has ever been in a store/at its web site/on the phone with Ave/applied for credit with Ave/etc.

We have had this number (that was called) for over a year, so Avenue's records should be updated and purged even if someone else used this number.

This, although possibly accidental, is purely illegal.  (How many "accidents" will occur to how many people?)

Of course, we will not do business with Avenue.
