THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

I got a phone call this morning from an unknown number and name an East Indian accent.. Regarding a problem with my windows that Microsoft does not know about it and that none of my antivirus or mal ware protection or firewall can stop this problem of illegal flies being downloaded on my computer...he wanted me to make changes to the computer to stop this problem...I hung up the phone  and called the RCMP fraud squad....I live in Vancouver, BC

I didn't get a call.  I got a screen that had the Microsoft logo and a screen with multiple spyware and "Trojan" viruses.  There were flashing notices with numbers of spyware viruses.  When I tried to look at the warning, a screen came up asking for registration.  It was difficult to get the screen closed.  I have checked my virus software and Windows Defender.  Both said the computer was running normally with no viruses detected.  The warning screen was not like any other screens I have seen. Could this be related to the phone calls?

Well, they sucked me in. The same scam. I was having issues with my computer so I believed them and let them take control of my computer. Can't believe I was so stupid but I was having a lot of error  messages going out and they mentioned that right away. Anyway, to make a long story short, they had control of my desktop  and my computer runs like a piece of***
Should I reformat C and re-install everything? What else?
