I got a call at work from this number saying they were calling about a debt I owe. I do not want them calling at my place of work- does anyone know if I can legally request them to stop calling me at work?? Very  uncomfortable to have this call at work.

I received a call from 800*700*2106 today. told it was law office of John C Bonewicz in Chicago.  The number was a local number, however, several sates away. Should i call them back? ignore them? Block the number?
Can they actually "freeze" my back account as others have stated? I have received no correspondence via US mail or email. Please advise...anyone?
thank you and happy new year!!

I dont have any past due accounts of any kind, I get calls constantly from this bonowitcz law firm regarding people who apparently have the same last name, Looks like these people just go thru the phone book and call anyone with the same last names. I have told them repeatedly to not call me...They are arrogant and very disrespectful.. How can I make these people quit calling my phone number? I am on the "do not call list" and am sick and tired of answering the phone to be put on hold as soon as I answer.. Is there some kind of legal action I can take against these people?

This scares me to death!! I setteled an account that i had with them back in december and the guy was really stern but never rude, i knew i owed the money and was willing to pay but didnt have the full 1200 dollars right then. he got kinda upset and was like well this has to be settled so i worked out paying 300 dollars (automated withdrawl) a month for 4 months. all fine and good but he never sent me ANY paper work. well now i have one month left and my bank just sold out to another bank and my account number is changing and i tried to get in contact with them to let them know that the last month would be a new account. well i have no way to contact them the guy didnt leave a number or anything so i tried calling the 800 number they say they have no record. but i called my bank and they gave me the name and the number to call and they still say they have no knowledge.

I had quite an experience with the law office of John Bonawitz. They will do everything they can to collect for their clients. They pulled a hard inquiry on my credit without my permission. According to the FCRA they cannot do this. However, you have to take them to court to get any resolution, and that would cost wuite a bit to only get $1,000 fine slapped on them. Furthermore, they are some lying SOB's! I told them I would agree to their terms if they sent me a written agreement that was notorized so I could keep it for my records as proof of the agreement. They said they faxed it to me. I stood next to the fax while they were "faxing it" to me. It never came. I made an additional request to fax immediately, and then they changed their tune and started yelling at me that I was just trying to get out of paying the debt, and I was stalling, and that they were again marking me as a failure to pay. Eventually, their client to me to court-in a different county than my residence, serving me a summons with incorrect information and still won a judgement against me for more than double the original default amount. A major shaft job. So, now I am looking at a bankruptcy. [***] you Bonawitz, and CACHE LLC ! !  My recommendation to you would be to contact an attorney immediately if you ever have contact with these bozo's and let them negotiate a settlement on your behalf. Even though there are supposed to be laws protecting your rights, people like Bonawitz can drive right over them with impunity...

I have received many calls from this company about a debit I do owe. I had fallen on times of where I was completely unable to turn loose of any monies as I did not have anything extra once household bills were paid. I took a job paying extremely less than what I was making before... although I am very grateful to be employed. I was also a victim of identity theft in the past and had to pay a large court cost to prove I was myself and have derogatory remarks removed from my credit and background information.  With that being said, I spoke with a Juan Gibson at the Law Offices of J.C. Bonewicz. It has been stated that CITI  Financial has a "pending" lawsuit against me ... I did look on casenet and it is true there is a lawsuit on there. I have no problems paying this amount that this Juan person suggested but I do not want to give my bank account information over the phone and he assures me that if I don't I will be taken to court and made to pay in full. I don't have the "in full" amount at this time. I am capable of the payment though. Any ideas on how to stop the law suit and harassing calls?

    HELP!

I have an incredible amount of student loan debt and have been in contact with all of the loan originators trying to get a grip on them and make payment. Tried consolidating but that was no longer an option. One loan from citibank somehow fell through the cracks and low and behold shows up as a charge off on my credit report. Called citibank and was told it wax sold and that they weren't sure who it was sold to!!!  They told me someone will get in contact with us. Next thing that happens is me my family my former employers are getting calls from these very nasty people that don't want to discuss anything . I am paying every loan I have and would be paying this one too if citibank knew were they were doing. Calls to citibank are recorded " supposedly" if they were they would have many many calls from me trying to get what I owe and trying to make payment arrangements. Your law firm is a disgrace and uses bullying tactics and is apparently borderline fraudulent. Talk to me legitimately and like a human being and I would be happy to figure repayment out. Otherwise it can stay as a charge off for the 7 years it will take to go away...

They will try to take you to court to serve you.  They will use UPS to send a letter via a company called Venture Encoding.  You must sign for the letter thru UPS.  Just don't do it and they cannot serve you a court summons.

No one gets served by e mail, no one gets a heads up they are being served. The person you are replying to has given very bad advice. Court papers are served in person or by certified mail delivered by the mailman. This is most certainly an attempt to scare you by extortionists. Go to the CFPB and your state attorney general's web site to learn what you should already know about debt collection. While there, report these crooks.

So they are sending a letter about collecting a debt? They can't take you to court via a UPS letter? I got an email from them but none of my accounts are past due? So I'm not sure why I am receiving this letter, package, what ever it is.
