1-800-704-8950.  Same as posted below.  It is a scam for NFCU account holders.  Report them.

I received the same automated message as others have described and they left me voicemails twice within a 5 hour period. It is confirmed as a SCAM by NFCU. my NFCU rep sent their head of security the details of the number that they called me from (probably a spoofed number since it came up as a Honda dealership in Naples, FL) and they also reported this 800 number to NFCU security. Anyone below who says this is a legit NFCU fraud call probably represents the scammers trying to convince others to call the 800 number.  Don't do it and report it immediately to the phone number on the back of your card.

Missed 2 calls that were supposedly from NFCU and got a voicemail.  The voicemail told me to call the number in question.  When I called, I got an automated message asking for my phone number.  I put it in, assuming it was standard procedure and was then put on hold.  A representative (Whitney) picked up a couple of minutes later.  She then asked me for my Access number, User ID, or SSN (I asked if it was just the last 4, but she wanted the whole number) to verify my account.  I hung up.

This is a legit automated fraud number for Navy Federal credit card account; however, best practice is to call back the number on your card or the number on their website (this number doesn't even show up in their search result). So no need to reply to this saying I support scammers. Take away two things as factual:
    (1) This number IS 100% legit
    (2) DON'T call it back, because that should NOT be a habit you make with your personal information (calling unknown numbers). Navy FCU customer service operators are not only super friendly, but they are capable of taking care of what you would have by calling that automated number and forward the details on to the fraud department. Peace of mind is invaluable.

I got a voicemail this morning from 888-842-6328 to call 800-704-8950 to confirm suspicious charges on my Navy Federal credit card.  I logged into my account online and saw the suspicious charges then called 800-704-8950 and spoke with a Navy Federal representative to close the affected card and have a replacement issued.  These are valid numbers.  When in doubt don't rely on the caller ID on incoming calls since they can be spoofed so call back the numbers.

I just called NFCU and they did call me to question a transaction. I called their main number, however - not 800-70408950.

Nah, this is legitimately NFCU. They reached out to me via this number and three other outlets at the same time, and I called the number on the back of my card to confirm.

What they SHOULD do is to instruct you to call them back with the number on the back of your card so that there's no suspicion as to who called. That's on them to fix, but yes this call really was NFCU.

This is the Fraud Department at Navy Federal, confirmed. Tried to make a purchase from a Japanese website (I knew it was a real business and I had used my paypal previously for this website) and my credit card was denied. I thought nothing of it... until I got a call from an 888 number (later confirmed to be Navy Federal's ACTUAL number) telling me to call this number. So I did. It was entirely computerized, and it got all of my information from just the phone I used to call, as I used the same phone they had called me on. After taking a minute to "obtain my information" and telling me that "this was not a marketing call" and to "listen to the full message", they informed me that they had frozen my card (and told me "the card ending in ****), and needed my zip code to confirm my ID. That's it. It was great, because I was worried they'd ask for last 4 of my SSN, or something like that. After I entered this, they asked that I confirm the attempted transaction (using the terms "Video game or novelty shop for $____") and they reopened the account. It was incredibly easy, and is definitely for real.

This is indeed NFCU.   If they see unusual charges, they will contact you even if they are legitimate.  In my case, I'd travel outside my home area and used my card a couple time in other state.  Out of state charges in one new geographic didn't fit my normal spending pattern so they called to check using an automated system for the initial call.

It is NFCU's Fraud division phone#.
I called back (800) 704-8950 as indicated in the voicemail. I was not asked to enter my card# or other personal info, basically just verify the last 6 of my card. (We're asked for 6 digits because a receipt may show the last 4 and anyone could call in with those numbers, thus lifting the hold on the card)
The system asked if I made a purchase at _____ in the amount of _____. That's all. Nothing personal transmitted.

On November 8th 2017 I Called Navy Federal Credit Union at their toll Free Number listed on the back of their credit card, That number is 1800 242 6328. I told Navy FCU  that I had received an automated message asking me to call 800 704 8950 to verify a transaction. I asked them if that was their fraud control number. I was told that yes it was, I was then transferred to Navy FCU fraud control and the transaction which I had made last night was verified as being correct. If you have caller ID, bear in mind that you may receive a call to you that does not show 800 704 8950. They used a different outbound 800 number to call in with their message. It's time consuming to verify all of this. Bottom line, always call the bank back at their general credit card number and have them transfer you to their Fraud Control people, They told me, btw, that they are increasingly going to text messaging because of the complexity of reaching people by phone.

I Concur, 1-800-704-8950 is a legit Navy Federal number... I did opt to call back to the 800 number on the card and was (after talking to a REAL person) was told this is a legit number to the Fraud dept. I would rather jump through some hoops as to call blindly and blab info no one else should have.

I received a voice mail on my home phone this afternoon from Navy Federal Fraud Prevention regarding recent activity on my card.  I called back the number given in the answering machine message from the home that received the call, and the robo announcement said I was calling the NFCU Fraud Prevention number, but it did not recognize the number I was calling from and wanted me to enter my phone number again.  I immediately hung up and called the number on the back of my card.  The representative did verify that the number itself IS a legit number to NFCU Fraud, but she saw no note that they had called me today.  She also said my home number was listed on my account, so why it would not be recognized gives pause for thought.  NFCU had texted me last week about some charges; I checked the cell phone, and no texts from them today.  I also checked caller ID on my home phone and the record/ID of the call (i.e., phone number) did not appear as a missed call on my caller ID.  Suspect this is a spoof of a legit phone number.
