This number is used by TIVO/DirecTV to report viewing habits. It makes outgoing calls to this number from your phone.

Is DTV allowed to use your phone to make outgoing calls.

There have been unauthorized outgoing calls from my phone number to this number.  I don't like having my phone line accessed without my knowledge

Indeed, I called DirectTV and they told me that they use my home phone line to make calls to some modem that captures viewing habits.  They claim that this information is transmitted to the modem anonymously but I find that hard to believe.  In any event, I called their billing department and asked them to disable this function on my cable boxes.

I watched calls going out on my phone line, then came to this site and found it's DirecTV.  Since the only access I know they have to my phone line is the line plugged into their receiver, I unplugged that line.  Will see what happens.

When I went into my settings on Verizon, this number is listed several times  as outgoing to my  number. My phone line is attached to my Directv box and I initially assumed that the calls were being made from my line, so at night (when I noticed the most activity- between 12midnight and 6:30 am) I took my phone off of the hook. What began to happen after that is that the calls were then being made via my phone line during all of the daylight hours beginning when I placed my receiver back in the cradle from 7 am - on.  My phone is a Vtech and used to show "line in use" and I could  not figure that out.  It had been going on for as long as we have had Directv (which is since 2005).  Today 5/20/14, I unplugged my phone line from the HDTV box and now I will wait to see what happens
