- BigA replies to angelDebt collectors cannot "put" a judgement on any debt. They have to sue you to do that. That means that they cannot legally sue you once the Statute of Limitations has passed. They have to prove that you owe the debt. This is a criminal enterprise.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I called the number, which was Davis & Edwards. She had me give her the reference number. She knew my name but wanted my date of birth; which I didn't give her. She told me this was a civil complaint against me. ???? I have no idea what that is. She got back when I asked and then my husband ask what this was about. She wouldn't give me any information unless I gave her my date of birth. Then she got mad and hung up on me.

- Alyson RobertsCalled my husband using a local number told him to call the 800 number. Gave us a reference number, we called and they claimed my husband had $800 worth of debt from a cell phone company. Once I stepped in to say they legally need to provide a letter stating what the debt is they weren't garnishing his pay check. They immediately hung up because I was speaking for him. We called back as me being him and they stated they can't give out information because he didn't authorize it. I'm his wife I can speak on behalf of my husband whether authorized or not.

- JenScam. Called my child’s phone amd left a message stating they attempted to deliver a package and to call their office. Funny. Nothing ordered and now I’m reporting these people to the FTC. Seems like they are some scam company who buys old debts. Great the dummy left a message so I can upload the audio file to the complaint. Idiots..

- rawan abdallah replies to SherryThat’s exactly what just happened with me, so now what should I be worried
- BrenJust received a call from this number. Voicemail transcript says it’s about a notice to deliver a package. Given what others are reporting it seems like this number is being used for multiple types of scams, so definitely disregard and block.

- John ROut of curiosity, I called this number back, and I took the number and the code. The company is called Davis and Edwards. I spoke with young lady named Nicole, she tried to tell me I had a Civil Complaint from a credit card company HSBC from 2015 for over $1800.00 from 2015. SO I let her go on with her speech and pulled my credit report and at the same time used my other phone and called said bank and confirmed with Pria, at HSBC, that there was in fact NO account with them. Then I proceeded to let her have it. THIS IS A SCAM PEOPLE. HEADS UP

- amanda AThey called my parent's house, a phone number that I haven't used in almost 20 years. They gave my dad a case number and said it was about a Premier Lending Group. I might call back just for fun, but I'm 99% sure its a scam.
