This Robert called my house and left a message with my mom. When I called the number back a different man answered and td me that this Robert had just stepped out. Then he asked if he could help me and I told him that I had a message to call Robert and he then told me my name, that scared me but went on to tell me that I owed a local gas station $70 for a bad check he then asked if he could take a card number to pay for it. I informed him that I did not have any cards at this time and asked if I could pay it at in cash at the gas station. He told me I could and that he would let them know that I was coming I hung up and drove to there and the cashier said that he got a message not a call and he wished to call his manager. This sounded good to me  and the manager said if my check had bounced she would have called me. and that I did not owe them anything. DO NOT GIVE RMG YOUR CARD NUMBER CHECK WITH THE PLACE THEY SAY YOU OWE FIRST!!!

No need to check anywhere because it is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Like others have posted, this "Robert Lopez has been continuing to call our home # & now my cell. Don't know this man. He just called my cell 3 times & then our home phone. This has been going on for a week. Calls from one # then says to call back on another #. I have never called back because this is a SCAM!! Don't call back. I will be reporting it as should you. If one of the selections listed as call type was "scam artist" I would choose it.

Caller claimed to be from SSA and that there was fraud connected with my SSN, and to call the number back for more information.
