This number has called my home several times. It is a computer generated call that says: "Thank you for calling please stay on the line for the next available representative." I hang up then. I have no clue who is really calling.

I have received 11 phone calls in 6 days. At first I ignored them thinking it was a telemarketer; then I answered and it said "Thank you for calling please stay on the line for the next available representative"...i waited about a minute or two then hung up. After that the calls slowed down, but now when they call my phone barely rings twice, and I cant even try to answer it before they hang up. I have no idea who this is and I want them to stop calling me and wasting my minutes

They left a message stating "Please stay on the line for an important call regarding you health care provider." I do not think this is legit and is a telemarketer. Here are my reasonings:
    1) There is no way to call them back.
    2) No one has this number.
    3) Discovered I forgot to register the number with the national do not call list https://www.donotcall.gov/
    4) their automated system does not detect voicemail.
    5) the 1-800 number is not associated with my heath care provider.
    6) the 1-800 number is not easily looked up online.
    7) the 1-800 number is listed on multiple websites listing Telemarketer Phone numbers.

After doing more research the Phone Number is for "Perferred Medical Deposits". They have two websites:
http://www.pmdinc.cc ("cc" = Cocos Island Domain Name) and http://www.paymentcenteronline.com

They are based out of Iowa.

they are called preffered medical services,**NOT A COLLECTIONS CALL NECESSARILY** they are the payment processor for hundreds of hospitals around the country. i have medical bills that i have not payed off within the 15 months they gave me so they are calling to tell me it is past due and letting me know i can apply for an extension or for a reduction in my monthly bill. the call is not anything malicious or any attempt to sell you anything. they are actually very nice and just trying to help. if you dont know of any medical bills you owe then it would be in your best interest to stay on the line to clear it up or let them know soemone else used your phone number and possibly your address at a hospital visit or soemthing.

This is PMD. PMD is a payment collection center that contracts with hospitals and medical providers to collect uninsured and unpaid medical debts. They want your money and they want it now!

Are they a bill collector or are they the collector of the $25 that is wanted to have your complete medical history forwarded to a new doctor?  The fact that they say, "please follow the instructions in the letter you received", leads me to believe the latter.  Either way, they are annoying.  If they can't tell me on my answering machine exactly what they want, makes me want to ignore the calls.

They  ARE a Collections Agency!-They are REQUIRED BY LAW to notify you in WRITING that they are attempting to collect a debt and any informantion collected, now or in the future, will be used for that purpose.

IF they do not have a current address,  they are allowed (within reason) to skiptrace a good address for you (talking to folks with the same last name, neighbors, landlords, etc etc)..

Depending on the amount owed,  they may continue to call you or simply  make 2-3 calls then write-off the account back to their client as "uncollectible"... IF the amount owed is large enough, they MAY pull a Credit Bureau on you looking for a good address and/or jobs and/or assets that they can attach thru their attorney.

Yes...  I was a bill collector for over -10- years AND a collections Supervisor as well...

    Good luck-

the caller id said clarke county hospital. for one I dont live near a clarke county but I do have family members that travel as part of thier living and when I see a hospital is calling I pick up. But to then be put on hold for a bill that I know nothing about and they want my social security number before they will talk to me. This screams scam!!!! I dont have any outstanding hospital bills as I have health insurance that pays for pretty much everything and if not I pay the bill off ASAP

Yes, I agree with Anthony, 13 May 2009.

While they care a collection firm, they're more like the medical provider's 3rd party billing service.  They work for Liberty Hospital in Missouri, who outsource their billing files to them.  It's not like a regular collector, where the hospital has tried to collect and the debt gets old and sold off to them.  They maintain the billing files from day 1 of a patient's bill.  At least, that is what they seem to be doing for Liberty Hospital.  They've been every bit as nice to me as if Liberty had a local billing dept.  Now, if PMD cannot get what it needs, it outsources to a regular collection agency.   I've had one of my payments to PMD lapse, where PMD had been doing automatic deposits but the final payment was something I needed to take care of since PMD was only authorized to collect the same monthly charge each month (and the final payment was lower no needed to be manually authorized).  Well, I let it go, and about 6 months later I got a call from a collection agency working on behalf of PMD.  According to the collector, PMD wasn't the collector, they were.     Bottom line is that I suppose PMD could be working in various capacities.   Maybe their arrangement with Liberty is unique.  I don't know.

if you cant afford the payment on the bill you can apply with the hospital for financial assitance...i got a call from preferred medical deposit and told them I am applying for assistance yesterday...they havent called again since. They do work out arrangements. They are not a collection agency. You were right. Their arrangement with Liberty is not unique. They work with Herrin Hospital in Herrin where I live also. They represent more than one hospital from what I am reading in these posts on here. I hope this helps. Have a great day!

They had my name and home number apparently for an outstanding bill with Holly Cross Hospital in FL.  I called back and informed them that I have never been there neither do I have insurance in my name.  They wanted me to give them my address, date of birth or the last four of my ss#.  I refused to give this information out and asked for some of their information to see if it's a match to mine.  They refused citing patient confidentiality.  I was then informed that my number would be taken off of their calling log.  That seems to be too easy as at the end of the conversation they don't know if I'm the person they are looking for or not.  Can we try this with legitimate bills????

I recieved a call from this number and it was a billing service for a hospital that I had been too and it was for the remaining balance of my bill which I then called and asked the hospital if this was correct and they said it was. But I will make the payment to the hospital I was at. They did have my name and phone number but did not ask for birth date or last four of my ss #. and they did know my insurance co name.
