Messages appear on the screen of a person's laptop or desktop that state that you have a virus that is going to erase your hard drive unless you take immediate action.  The message requests that you immediately call 800 813 1316 so that Microsoft's technical assistants can safely remove the virus.  Of course they want lots of money.  They are complete crooks, a total scam.  Just shut down the computer and then restart the computer.  These guys should be in jail.

Got  Blue screen, sirens, message "ZeusVirus...if you close this page, you will lose your hard drive.  Call 1-800-813-1316 immediately."  We called a "Norton" number off our phone search.  Wasn't Norton!  I didn't continue the conversation and hung up.  Twice the phone rang, middle eastern accents, and we would not talk to them.  Be sure you call NORTON or your anti virus company!!  Norton verified this as being hackers, scammers at work!  Norton #:  1-800-745-6061.

2nd time it's happened to me. scam of course. shut off router, reboot, delete scam tabs/pages. no problem. I deleted Chrome history anyway. Microsoft Defender scan - no viruses - I ran that before shut off and reboot just to make sure no virus.
I recognized the Indian-accented voice of the male I talked with the first time I called to tell them to F***off. Yes, exactly the same guy. Told him just what I was going to do to him and his sister, blasted my airhorn - hope it ruined his ear for life - and hung up.

Being an elderly widow, I got sucked into this scam! After hours of them messing with my computer, and then trying to get me to agree to charges, I refused and told them to cancel everything.  I shut off my computer, and had to cancel credit cards.   I called Microsoft who told me that this company is not part of their company.  The next day the same man called me to say that if I was happy, my credit card would now be charged!  I told him no way and that I was reporting him to Microsoft and the authorities.  He hung up.

I'm in IT and it happened to one of our office ladies. It's a simple scam. It'll more than likely lock up your browser. Just open up your take manager and kill the process and you'll be good to go. Not a virus, worm, Trojan or anything of that nature.

I think you mean task manager (not take manager).

Got an error message on my laptop that it was infected with a Trojan Virus and to call Microsoft immediately or my computer would be damaged. My laptop was also giving out a loud alarm . The message said to call the Help Desk at 18008131316. I called and a man with an Indian accent answered. He wanted to hack into my system. I did not trust what was going on and I hung up the phone and shut down my laptop.

These guys do not give up easily.  I've lost track of how many times their warning has come on my computer just after I log on.  I have to go through Task Manager to shut it down.
