- steve| 1 replyReceived a call from "allan". He stated that he got the number from Craiglist and could help me sell the car. I specifically stated in my advertisement "no Solicitations". Also, I am on a national do not call list.

- John| 2 repliesSame scam reported by others. My van was for sale on Criag's List and I checked "no solicitations" but they called anyway and repeatedly. I deleted their messages the first two times from my voice mail, but my daughter was taken in by their call about a week later. They obviously have no intention of giving back the money as "guaranteed." Part of their smokescreen is to "require" a notarized request for the refund, then "require" a notarized request with a raised seal, then "require" a notarized request with a raised seal and a 1953 Mickey Mantle baseball card, then...you get the idea. Of course, if you've been polite enough to try to jump through their hoops, they eventually tell you that the deadline for the refund has passed.
The obvious best course is to refuse payment on your credit card (in writing.)- Caller: Longwood Industries
- Call type: Telemarketer
- anonymous replies to John| 1 replyactually, that's not true...they require a notarized copy of the refund form...that's all, and you will get the refund if you send it in as explained on the receipt you get in the mail....you may not like their telemarketing tactics, but they aren't really a scam.
- FEI am a former employee of Adentis Inc, located @ 312 2nd Street Suite 2, Roanoke, Va. 24011. This is the actual company who owns and operates the thebiglot.com and autohopper.com. Their staff is trained to tell consumers that they are Longwood Industries, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that employs physically handicapped folks in the Bedford, Va area. Not true.
There is one lady in their office who is employed by Longwood, she scans the newspapers and online listings of car sellers nationwide, and enters the seller's phone number into an automatic dialer, with a pre-recorded message from 'Alan' who explains, in a 20 second message that he noticed that Longwood Industries already has buyers for their car (or boat, or motorhome, motorcycle, ATV, 5th wheel, travel trailer, etc.) in their area, and to please call back for more details @ 800-821-7025. Sound familiar???
If you call back you will have a salesperson answer the call and tell you that Alan is in the Research Department but they will be happy to help you if they can.
The salesperson goes into a pitch about how they have 30,000 buyers a day on their websites and guarantee to sell your 'vehicle' within 30 days AT YOUR FULL ASKING PRICE, or you get your money back.
What you get after you give them your credit card number is internet advertising for your used vehicle, for 30 days with a guarantee to get your money back, well most of it, if your vehicle does not sell.
And now you know!- Caller: "Longwood Industries"
- Red Bear800-821-7025: "Alan" left a message that he was with a "501 (c)3" and had a ready buyer for a collector car (very valuable 1960's restored car) and I should call him back. I thought it was strange that somebody would call saying they had a ready buyer for an expensive and rare car, so I found this site. I've also checked with a Colorado licensed used car dealer and he says that several pubs, like the giveaway classified ads (especially "American Classics" and "Autotrader" sell their customer (used cars) lists to this outfit. I already sold the car to another collector, so I didn't get harmed in any way.
- MainahMy Fiance put her truck on Craigslist and we got a message on the machine from "Alan", same as above, had a buyer for the truck, blah blah blah, i called him back and talked to a person and I quizzed him about their company and i got told a line of B.S., it was read from ascript because I was reading the same words on my screeen from their websit that he was spewing out to me, word for word, I told him that I was sceptical about this deal and he basicly told me I was stupid for not letting him sell our truck, He then told me what vehilce we were selling and read the ad to me, I had not given him my number, and I had blocked my number before calling, yet he knew who I was somehow, i did not like that at all, he tried to tell me that I gave him my number at the begining of the conversation, but i know I did not, purpously, so I got freaked out and told him to never call my number again aand hung up. By the way, we are in Maine.

- Dean| 4 repliesWe just received the same call from Alan on our answering machine. And we have our minivan in the the Autotrader for sale. He left the same message as others. Here is the message verbatim..."Hi my name is Alan & I'm calling because I see you're selling your vehicle. I work for Long Wood Industries. And the number here is 1-800-821-7025. The reason I'm calling is because we're a 501c3 company and we match buyers and sellers of cars together. And I think that we have some people that are gonna be interested in your vehicle. So give me a call. Again, number is 1-800-821-7025 & my name is Alan. Have a great day." Won't be calling him back after looking this up online.

- WilliamI live in New York State and started receiving strange calls with no one on the line when I picked up. This happened about the same time every day for three days in a row. On the forth day, I let my answering machine take the call and it was the "Alan" recording with 1-800-821-7025 as the return number. My vehicle was advertised for sale in our local daily newspaper so that's how they got my number. Needless to say, I didn't (and won't) return Alan's call.

- DawnI live in Wisconsin and received the EXCACT phone call as everyone else has about our motorhome we have for sale. I have not called back and I just had a bad feeling so I went online to see what I could find. I am so glad I found this website!!! Thank you.

- ChrisI have a great idea for all you people who are sick of telemarketers. Go to Youtube and listen to this conversation. It's guy doing a radio bit, who records conversations with telemarketers, and puts the telemarketer in the hot seat. VERY FUNNY!
The title of this is The Greatest Prank Call Ever.

- ddtismeWell, I am not even selling a car, but I did put a free piano on Craigs list last weekend. You guessed it, Alan called and left a message for me also about my car for sale. They need to spend a little more money on the people they have scouring the internet looking for cars for sale.

- CalledI received a call at work for two days in a row from an unknown number, when I answered there was no one on the line. On the third day I was in a meeting at around the dame time and when I returned I had a message from "Allan" indicating that he was a 501 3c company that could help me sell my car. Same message that has been indicated by some people. I called the # and was the recording indicated that the lines were bussy and to wait for the next avail. rep. I hung up, called my wife who is a non-profit admin. and she said dhe'd never heard of non-profit companies doing that. You can donate your car to be given to someone needy but never assist you in selling your car. I researched the # and company and came to this site. I will not call them back and if I see the same code on my caller ID I will not pick up. Please note that if you want to sell your car there are many ways to advertise it for free, just do your research - Local newspapers - online papers, craiglist and others. PS. I have been looking for a car and never heard of auto hopper or the big lot.

- Angie replies to DeanI got the same exact message too - I am also from Maine and listed my vehicle on Craig's List. Will not return his call.
- BobHi I have been recieving the exact same call at precisely 9AM. I was just surfing on Craigs List. I have nothing to sell. I am on the national do not call list and I feel that this is a breech of my right to privacy by Craigs list, and harassment by this Alan creature. I am ticked off at both of them and I will pursue it legally.
