received this number left a message to call me back said they were from soicial security when I call back no one answers

The 800 number is for the Chicago region Social Security office.  Their 800 # system crashed.  Try next week.

this is the way you apply for ss now on line. it is perfectly lgitimate.i just finished with mr. williams.very helpful person.

The people using this # and the 312 chicago # are crooks looking to steal your SS #.  don't fall for thier scam

Is this a legitimate call from Social Security Admin??

I received this number on my answer machine but was suspicious because of the time of day the call was received and the unprofessional tone of the message. When I called back the next day I was told they couldn't access my file without my SSN. I didn't give it & was told I would be called back when they "sorted through the files which are arranged by SSN." Glad I went with my insticnts.

I had a message from the above number, but went on the SSA website to see if I could verify the number.  I called the number that was listed on their website and when a representative came on the phone, SHE verified the number.  IT IS LEGITIMATE.

I too had a call from 312 575 6999 from a Ms. Wyatt, who indicated she was confirming my online filing. She left her callback as 800 842 0588, with an extention number. When I called, I got voicemail for a Mr. Thurston. This concerned me. I called the main social security number, and they confirmed that the 312# was part of the Great Lakes social security office and that it is legitimate.

Whether you think it is legit or not NEVER give out you SSN over the phone. Period.

I just checked with Social Security and they said it is legitimate.  With all of the Baby Boomers filing, they "farm" out the work.  I feel much better.

I also received a call from 1-800-842-0588 which came in on 3:17 on a Sunday afternoon.  It said it was social security and needed to speak with me about my application for SS.  I was slightly concerned about calling back a number that I was not sure what it was. So  I  checked with SS by contacting them directly through a number I knew was legit and verifying that the number I received the Sunday phone call from was legit number.   It is legit and is the Chicago office.  If you want to verify the number with out waiting on hold forever you can fill out a place under "contact us" on SS website and ask them to call you back.  I received a call back in minutes rather than waiting on hold on the phone for more minutes.

this number is legitimate.  I also just filed for medicare and received a call from this number.  Checked with SS and found it was legit.  I returned the call and spoke with a Mr Parker...they were just checking to be sure I was filing for the right medicare, part A or part B.

This is sloppy.  I have gotten calls for *4* different individuals from this # ("I'm calling from the social security office looking for John Doe;" and three others looking for  Jane Doe, Joe Doe, etc...  All different family names, all at different times, all calling *my* single cell line).  When I call back after I get out of work I get, "Press one to register for a Caribbean vacation....  Don't you deserve a vacation?  Press one now."

So a)If the # is legitimate and SS is using this service they have bad information have disclosed 4 people's protected health information to me and b)to have a caribbean vacation place stand between a caller and their SS worker is unacceptable.

I, too, got a call from 312-575-6999 from a nice lady named Miss Gibson. She never asked me my SS number. She only asked two security questions and to verify my home address. She spoke to me about my SS application and informed me of what I still needed to apply. She gave me the call back number of 800-842-0588. I hung up and remembered to ask another question of her. I called a couple times before I got thru. I left her a voice mail message. The number is a legit call back number to representatives of Social Security.

Lady's voice said she was Mrs Castell from social security office with questions about my online application for social security  .I didn't think since I had applied on line last week and had not heard anything the ext # 35981.so I called the number and left my number and ss # the machine voice said I am  away from my desk or on the phone with another  to leave your name and ss# and a phone # where you can be reached so I did .I looked this number up online and I think It is a scam to get information I sure hope I have not hurt my Identify.Has anyone else had this happen to them if so How do we fix it if it is a scam.
