these are not government people. these are bill collectors.
If they have your phone # don't you ****THINK**** they should know your name???  ask them if they know your name...
They do not.
And each rep is TRAINED to lie.

I got a call from this number. It is for my student loan, BUT the person who left the message said that mail has been sent back to them. The US Department of Ed, has my correct address and my loan is in deferment till September, because I have no job at the moment. Why they are calling I have no idea! I did not call them back, not sure if I will. I never got a call from them before, even when I was late with a payment, why are they calling now?

This is a legitimate number and it really is the Department of Education. More specifically, it is Direct Loan Delinquent Account/Collections Department. After they left me a voice mail, I called them back, gave the lady who answered my phone number, and she rattled off all of my pertinent information (address, email address, SSN, etc), then asked me what I needed. I told her they had just called me and left a message about important information. She said it was a hiccup with their system and that they didn't need anything and that my account was okay.

For those that claim they never had student loans, as them to look you up by phone number. Maybe someone in the past had the phone number you have now or someone you know used you as a reference or what-have-you. Also, keep in mind that, though it is a highly automated system, there are people inputting this information, and they do make mistakes...

Again, this is NOT a scam. This is the Department of Education doing their job.

Like you, I have never had a student loan. I used my education benefit from the Army, after serving 4 years. I have called 3 times and was told each time my number would be removed. I received my 9th call in ten days, earlier today.

This is a scam.  First of all the number comes up UNKNOWN on my cell's caller ID, second--they called looking for my niece who is 17 (she doesn't have student loans, but they say that my niece listed me in her school records), third--when you call there's not a live voice, there's an animated voice that asks you to press * to find out who's calling you by receiving a text message, fourth--I pressed star and then I got a message telling me to reply with a "Y" and then I could find out who it is for $9.99 / month. The web site is www.smsvw.com.  Not only is the guy's voice cheesy who called me, but this has got the most cheapest looking web site ever.

I received a call from them on my cell phone.  My student loans are paid and closed and I never used my cell phone with any student loans.  The first thing they ask for is my social security number--"No" is always the answer.  I don't give information out over the phone.  The only thing I did verify was the phone number they used to contact me.

why do they call? im in high school. i dont have any student loans. is there any way for this to stop, because they call twice a day during school hours.

I don't have any student loans either.  Never asked for it.  I called DE and they said they would never CALL individual student/loaner.  They will just send you a mail.  So it's a SCAM!!

I put myself thru school with no loans whatsoever, no grants, no nothin',.. nothin' but a trust fund. And they are calling me, ... every day. I didn't know what to think. I have been hanging up on them before they are allowed to deliver their number. However, if you guys are getting them too, then this is spam calling. I will have the number blocked for a month.

We should be able to label phone numbers "spam calls" so that our phone providers filter it out.

I am calling my phone provider now. They are working on blocking spam phone calls but the service isn't available yet. Just know that is it up and coming, that our phone service providers are going to soon block spam phone calls.

Now if they could only block all highly slanted Sean Hannity spam phone call political "surverys" during election years!!!!!!! That guy is unbalanced and need strong psychiatric meds.

They are calling people who don't have loans. You need to reassess the situation.

I say that you should report the number to your phone service provider.

This number call my phone everyday, so I decided to call the number back. When the representative answered she said may I have your SS#. I advised that I'm in school but I do not have a student loan. She then said it was maybe a friend who gave my number as a reference, I advised her no thats not possible..No one has this number. She the proceeded to say if "they" (her company) call back and leave a name, just call back. I advised her that they call everyday and never once have they left a name..she then proceeded to get really rude....What type of company just leaves mesg. without saying who the call is for. BE CAREFUL!

You need to check and make sure that no one took out a loan in your name. A friend of mine only went to college for a semester and someone had took out a loan for her for that second semester and the next year.

These people left a message on my answering machine. Funny thing is, ZNeither my husband or I have ever had a student loan??????
