said they were a chimney sweep and asked for $69.95 to clean my chimney, true or not true?

Sweepy's is owned by a 26 year old guy who lives in New York. He talks like the wanna be gangster talk of the young latinos. Apparently he was also arrested back in June of this year for Fireworks selling by a federal task force. You can find out this information on the internet once you get the presidents name.

Sweepy's are targeting all residents including the elderly in massachusetts and scamming them into believing that there chimneys need serious work and they can die of carbon monoxide. They are installing the wrong size liners and charging wayyy too much for the services. They use high pressure scare tactics and offer dicounts for cash.

Any reputable company would not telemarket calls and offer to come in and clean a chimney for 39-49 dollars! Come on people...don't be that naive!

They called me last night and offered to clean a 3 story + clearance chimney, wood stove, and all for less U$200. Waaay too cheap... It made suspicious. I told them that if they have their insurance company fax me their workman's comp _and_ provide me a firm written quote in advance, they could do the work. Otherwise, don't bother showing up. The ID that showed up was (949) 930-3256 even thought they said they were based in Woburn, MA. Based on the background noise, I could tell it was "boiler room" operation, no doubt a telemarketing company.

Called last night, said his men will be in the area next week and he would clean my chimney for $68.00.  Told him I would have to talk to my neighbor because I am in a duplex and he would have to get his done at the same time.  The previous neighbors had theirs done without telling me and my kids animals died and we were sick.  He had no idea how that could have happened.  I figured he hasnt been in the business very long if he never woked on duplexs. Doesn't need to call me back!  Gave me the phone # 1-800-848-6112 to call him, otherwise he will call me back.

I got a call Tuesday evening at 9:30 pm with the same pitch - "We'll be in your area next week".  Said to do my fireplace chimney would be $99 - never asked about the size or height of my chimney.

Got a call Oct. 23 from "Mike" who said he'd be working in my area, and could give me a good price on chimney cleaning. I said I had not used a fireplace since the last cleaning a few years ago. Then he asked how I heat my house. When I said oil, he said the chimney needed regular cleaning, otherwise a fire hazard, and quoted an official sounding organization.

I asked the company name and a number to call if I wanted the cleaning. He gave me Sweepys, 800-848-6112. I figured this was nonsense, and never called. When my furnace was serviced, I asked the tech, and he said there there was a scam like this going on.

Chimney Cleanings are being offered for 69.99 and up, which is a competitive price in a poor economic environment.As for targeting anyone, we contact Homeowners period.That is the only criteria we use.We offer a Valuable service at a competitive price,and are fully licensed and insured.And no the owner is not latino(which to some folks wouldnt matter).Regarding the fireworks,Happy July 4th,and all the charges were dropped.

Mike was explaining to you that the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association)which recommends that the flue for the oil should be inspected and cleaned annually.

I am NOT afflicated at all but am just a homeowner who got the call last night. So far NOT one person has ANY evidence of a scam!!!!!!!! If someone hired them and was unhappy then write it down and post it but I have not seen that and have not read that ANYWHERE. Is the "scam" you are referring to the low price??  

Well, before you let anyone up to on your chimney get a written quote and thats that.

I assume they are like Jiffy Lube and they try to sell other services that would be a good preventitive maintenance (not a scam) but you can say No, just give me the cleaning.

I got a call from sweepys chimney offering a sweep for $59. I said I didn't need a cleaning, but I did have some loose bricks and needed a cap.The technicians were kind to me and gave me a free estimate. After my son reviewed the condition report and estimate, we were happy to do business with the company.We were serviced three days later.Their good service was appreciated and now I don't worry about faaling bricks or debris in my chimney.

I received a call and got service from Sweepys Chimney. I have to say that they were a nice company to deal with. They came to my house and were professional. The guy explained everything and I was satisfied with there service. I would definelty recommend them and I had no problem reaching them at the number above.

This agency has investigated reports that this company has been targeting residents, particularly the elderly, citing a state law requiring that chimney's be cleaned.

To the Monson Police Department:

What has your investigation turned up?  Why post this comment with no further details.  It seems as if you are implying bad things about a small business without any real evidence of wrong doing.

To this point, this seems to have been an irrational decision; without anybody being held accountable.  Who questions the police, right!

Sweepys chimney finds the comments made by the Monson PD to be premature and with no substance.  Sweepys Chimney issues a challenge to the Monson PD to prove that Sweepy's is indeed targeting senior citizens.  As well as to prove that Sweepys cites regulations requiring chimney cleanings.

The reason Sweepys has the confidence to issue this challenge is simple.
1. We do not target seniors.  We target home owners.  
2. We do not cite regulations requiring mandatory chimney cleanings.
  We simply mention the fact that the NFPA code 211 states that a
  furnace chimney should be cleaned and inspected every year.  

So to the Monson PD............Please respond or retract!
