I get calls from this number all the time.  Apparently is ais a "new national directory assistance" line that charges $5.49.  The other number it gives is 702-555-1212.  Is there any way to stop this number from calling me?  Who are these people?  If we report it to the FCC, is there anything that can be done?

If it's a collection agency for an old number, then why does their information not exist in any phone directories?  Business phones should be public information, yet this comes up as a private listing.  I have not called back, after 100's of calls over the past few months, for fear it was a scam.

    Ok.
I got the call again today, after receiving it twice yesterday, and I finally called the number back.
Dave was correct, and it IS a collection agency looking for someone else with my phone number.
I told them they had the wrong number, and they removed me from the calling list.

I received a "missed call" notation on my cell phone from this number at 8:57 last night. When I attempted to return the call this morning, there was a recorded message stating, "Thank you for calling OSI Recovery Solutions.  Your call is very important to us. Please remain on the line and someone will be right with you."  Apparently this is some sort of collection agency and I am current on all of my payments.  Because I thought it was probably a bogus call trying to get information from me, I hung up before anyone could come on the line.

Evidently , this phone number pops up with a second message from Public School 29 , indicating that some kids are absent from the school. Its an everyday recoding, in which the school does not even check up on the absent kids with their parents. The kids in P.S. 29 are giving this phone number out as their primary contact. After investigating, the school still does not respond to this complaint. So everyone should call the BBB to shut this down. (Better Business Bureau).

They did not leave me a message. There is a registered collection agency by that name in my state.  This can be looked up on the internet if you google OSI Recovery and the name of your state.  It should show up in a list of agencies licensed in your state.

Somebody mentioned AOL, and there's a good chance that my call pertained to AOL as well.  I had an account with them that I had repeatedly attempted to terminate but was ignored.  The only way I could get rid of AOL was by allowing my card on file to expire.  They are claiming that I owe them for services from that time.  In fact, I was not using their service since we had switched to DSL several months earlier.

If you answer their call, they are REQUIRED by federal law to identify themselves.  That means full name and title of the caller and the full name of the company they represent.  DO NOT give them any information about yourself.  They will use it against you.

Cell phone users:  If they are repeatedly calling your cell phone, here is a web site that tells you what to do.

    http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs2a-cellcalls.htm

Below is a link to a site that tells us step by step what is required of them and what to do about it.  Your rights and obligations are clearly spelled out.  Please read this if you are being harassed by these guys.  There are 3 agencies to which we can report this kind of thing.  Very, very helpful.

They are a collection agency, but they are a collection for Mags, subscriptions, things like that. Someone ordered Scrapbook stuff in my husbands name and we are getting the calls. So although they are a collection agency, they are collecting for things that are small.

I have been receiving these calls for a while at my office... every now and then they leave pre-recorded  voice mails for a person who does not work here, never has.  I finally got sick of it because our phone system redirects back and forth to  voice mailboxes in the office if not properly disconnected, so this morning I had 102 voicemails - ALL FROM THEM! It's partially the fault of our phone system, but you can imagine how annoying it is to delete 102 messages at 9:00am.

HOWEVER - I called and listed the phone numbers we have hooked up here at the office and the gentleman on the phone searched for each one for me and supposedly deleted the incorrect number from the system.  He was very nice  and polite, and hopefully the calls stop!
I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU ALL CALL! If it helps my call was made at 9:30EST and they were open!
