Some kind of collection agency. Would not identify her self except by first name. Would not admit collection agency or call purpose. Looking for ex.

I have received numerous calls from 800-870-5610 during the past 2 months or so. Until today the person on the other end was a female and gave a letter code that was hard to understand. I was suppose to call the 870 number and use the code. She said it was extremely urgent that I call and used a name Murtha or something like that. Today I get a call from the same place and it's a male asking me to call. They are not going to give up, but then neither am I, they can call forever and I will never return the call. But, I do hope they quit soon. I have been on the do-not-call list for some time but it obviously doesn't do any good. I also get faxes and I'm on the fax do-not-call list too.

Yeah, so I just got the same call for the first time and have no idea who would actually have my cell phone number as it's not listed anywhere.  Amanda is the name of the girl calling me with the message that I "need to call her back as soon as I can"  With a reference # spoken so fast it's hard to understand.  Obviously, im not calling back as if this is really that important, they'll call again.

How do you know if it is a collection agency if they did not state purpose of call or what it was about?

NorthStar and Zenith Acquisitions.

This is a collection agency.  They called me looking for someone named Angie, who just happens to have the same last name as me.  Told them I had no idea who she was, and the representative started insuating that I was lying to him.  He was very rude.  I ordered him to take my number off the list and not call again.  I tried calling the number back so I could speak to a supervisor, but no one would answer it, just kept sending it to voice mail.  I looked the company up (Nelson, Watson, & Associates) on google and got a different phone number to call there (800-388-1190) and called it and reported him.  They told me my number was off the list and they wouldn't call again.  Try this if they keep harrassing you or threaten to sue them for phone harrassment if you don't actually owe them any money.

About the do-not-call list. Once you give out your phone number, to a bank or even to a department store (some ask for a phone number, some for an area code.) You number is not considered private anymore, even if it not on the do-not-call list. It is held up legally in court, all the soliciting company has to do is prove that you have given out your number to someone.

Know your rights and don't hesitate to file a complaint against them. They do break the law, and just because they're attempting to collect a debt, does not give them the right to bend the rules.
