Said they were from PCSecure.  offering free technical support.  sounded completely bogus to me.  Guy had a strong foreign accent, couldn't answer the simplest of questions and claimed that although they didn't work for Microsoft they had microsoft engineers who worked for them.  Haven't fully checked this out yet but will post more info if I get it. Just as a footnote, 800-878-2302 was the number the gave me when I asked for it but wasn't the number on my caller ID.

Had the same call happen.....sounded totally bogus and wanted me to check my computer while he was on the phone with me.  Told him that I needed his info and that I would contact HIM if I needed the help.  Am very curious about the company he said he worked for.

PCSecure is a legitimate company, but after quite a bit of research I discovered that the 800 number the caller gave me to return his call is flagged as a telemarketer.  I had suspected this.

I got a call from "Roger" who was an extremely PUSHY Indian man (not native American Indian, but from his accent, originally from India). He called Sept 12, and when I told him that I didn't want to purchase the product  right then and there - as things sounded fishy to me, their also wanting to take control over my computer - and said "I would think about it, and if interested would call them back," I again got aNOTHER call today from Roger.

Although according to Dennis's post he was being offered "free" technical support, they were NOT offering anything free to me. Roger was trying to get me to purchase something for a year, at the cost of $199.00 (one hundred ninty nine US dollars), saying it was "a one time fix-up, but if within the year there is some problem, you can call us and we'll address things if there's another problem."

Received a call on my home phone from a man, Patrick Smith with a heavy Indian accent, who gave this as his call back number when I requested it. I followed his instruction to me out of curiosity to see exactly what he was attempting to gain from me. He ultimately had me open my computer manager application (I disconnected from the internet before I did this...) to have me look at application files and search for "error" or "warning" files. He then told me he wanted to direct me to a website which would allow me to connect to an awaiting technician from Microsoft. I told him I was not interested. He asked if I wanted to have a corrupted computer. "That is correct.", I replied each time I was asked. I was passed from one supervisor to another who tried to insure me that I did not understand but they were just trying to help me. I called the 800 number from my cell phone while on the line with them. PC Wizard is the company name which is stated when the phone is answered by an auto attended system. When I asked about the name discrepancy he yelled at me repeatedly "We are not PC Wizard!" I could not stop laughing and told them to remove my name and number from their calling list. They continued to yell and hung up. Toying with them can sometimes be entertaining if you have a few minutes to kill. I will report them to Microsoft.

Way to go Sherry...I just had this same call and let them guide me through all the steps that you mentioned UNTIL it was time to click the download button and at that time, I took over all the questioning.  After getting a new supervisor named Shaun (love the names for these truly foriegn men!) he could not answer my questions about solicitations and are you associated or contracted by Microsoft......what a scam!  I just hung up.

Pc Wizards is an independent organisation and not a scam at all they themself say that they are not offiliated with microsoft or any third party brand. they are the online technical service provider of computers based on microsoft and apple as well and i am very much satisfied with thier services and got a new experience

I got a text saying "I want to touch your body." Just kidding,  it was PC Wizards.

I got the call 2-05-2013.  
They even got my cc number and downloaded a contract good for one year.  and I let them have control of the computer for over an hour.  I wish I had found out before all this happened.  What can I do now?  Do I have a trojan embedded?

Call your credit card company and thee them you were scammed.

I guess you call up the customer service number and verify whether the company exists or not or maybe try and email them if you have their contact details. I have gone through their website and made a call, it seems absolutely fine. Need not worry. Just try calling them up to be on a safe side.

2 calls in succession from PC Wizard, 2 different men with strong accents.  Claiming numerous problems had been reported on my computer so they are phoning "every Windows user".   There is no online computer at this phone #, so it's an obvious scam.   We are on the Do Not Call list.

Thanks for the information.  I thought it was a scam but wanted to be sure others knew about if.  The name of the man who called said he was Paul Walker (he was the second man who called but at least, I could understand this one).  I gave him no information but was concerned that he knew my name and phone no.

Not a scam my butt. You're part of the scam. PC Wizards called me today and I did a reverse number lookup, and your name is associated with the 800 number given to me to call back.

Scam!  Caller,  said I had hidden errors on my computer.  Did not follow the caller's instructions and called my friend who is an IT expert. I was told to run "eventvwr", the number is registered to Ashley shabaz Richardson, Sr. IT expert @ PC Wizards.

First of all Ashley, learn how to spell.  Your command of the English language suggests that you are from the same bunch that called everyone that had Indian accents.  so, your comments are deleted in my eyes

I too had two phonecalls from these jokers today, The first lad who had a strong Indian told me he was from PC Wizard and was offering a free service to repair and protect my new PC, and then contradicted himself soon after when i questioned him saying "i bet there is a cost involved" to which he said yes and so was quickly hung up on.
A few hours passed followed by another phonecall from PC Wizard this time it was another Indian gentleman who told me my PC was at great risk from spyware and malicious programmes, a load of tosh considering I have a years worth of protection from AVG internet security as i explained to him, but that wasnt enough to stop him as i was told that i was still at risk. He then told me to go to my PC and turn it on and would politely hold the line for me. Perfect opportunity to hang up on him to waste his time like he had just wasted mine. I work in a call centre myself for a large insurance company and these idiots give us a bad name!!!
