- CindyI got a message from this number asking me to call them back to verify recent activity on my account. I checked my account online and there is absolutely nothing suspicious so I had no need to call them back but am VERY suspicious of this call as I have done MANY transactions with this card and have NEVER received a call such as this before.

- DustinI got a call asking me to call 1-800-890-5097. When calling back it asks for last 4 digits of my SSN.
My bank has a chat function, this is the log of my chat mins ago:
Found available agent: Jennifer . You can chat now.
Jennifer : Hello Dustin
Jennifer : What kind of call was it?
Dustin: Hi. I just got a call from 1-800-890-5097 with a recorded voice asking for me to call them back to verify recent activity with my Visa debit card.
Dustin: When I call the number back it asks for the last 4 digits of my SSN. I didn't go any further.
Dustin: I did buy some things online today and also took some money out of my account so there was activity.
Jennifer : This is a valid company calling on our behalf for fraud protection.
Dustin: Ok great.
Jennifer : It is asking for the last 4 digits to identify you...it is ok to continue.
Dustin: Thanks for clearing that up. Have a good day.
Jennifer : Thanks for being cautious
So I also called the bank and they confirmed the same information. I called the number and was transfered to a rep that confirmed my last 5 purchases on my card. They didn;t ask for any information. The rep was very nice to speak with. The whole process took less than 4 mins.
The number is valid.- Caller: Fraud Protection Service

- MeganReceived a automated call needing verification of information on my bank debit card.
I did not call the 800 back directly, instead I called my bank and they (the bank) said it was legatimate but that they could update the security status on my account from there also.
The number was valid.- Caller: Fraud Protection

- russkiypenguinSame as some others have reported above. I got a VM. Called it back and it checked the number I was calling from to pull up my account. It asked for the last four of my SSN. I hung up the first time and looked up this web page. So this time I called back and entered the last four of my SSN. They confirmed some online payments I'd made to skype and then a local utility charge. Seems pretty straightforward.

- Quelkaima (or just "Q")I got a call from them today. Googled the phone number, which led me here.
After I checked it out, it seemed legitimate and proceeded to call them. Thankfully, there was no fraud on my debit card. It was just some things that kept coming up as declined.- Call type: Unwanted
- Quelkaima (or just "Q") replies to TJThey only require the last 4 digits, as they just want to make sure it's really you that's calling. If that company really wanted to defraud you, they'd ask for your entire SSN.
- NezzI've had to deal with these guys a few times. It's basically a card usage monitoring service. The first time I received a call from this number, I checked it with my CU, and got the same results as the others (it is valid).
The few times I've gotten these calls is when I make large purchases over the internet (just ordered a laptop online and that flagged the account) or making really large purchases in very fast succession (moved cross country and bought all of the furniture for the house in a single day at 3 different stores).
Personally, I like the oversight. While it can seem a tad invasive, how much more invasive would it be to find out that your bank account got drained by someone going on a shopping spree after getting your credit card number?- Caller: Visa Card Services - Fraud Protection

- Ben| 4 repliesThey called me and asked to call back when i did they said they were with visa fraud protection and needed my card number to verify, so i gave it to them. When i called my bank they said that this was a fraudulent call and that my identity had been stolen. They attempted to make several purchases that luckily were denied, I then called Visa customer support and they said they do not call customers and do not have info about purchases and that info such as that would be kept solely at the financial institution that i bank with for security purposes. This IS A SCAM DO NO GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION. call your bank and deal only with them otherwise you will get robbed.
- andeyeah, it is legit. i called and there were two charges i noticed on my account for
6/2/2008 DEBIT FRGN CURR EXCH 1% FEE $0.01
6/2/2008 DEBIT DEBIT PURCHASE - FEDERALMERCHANT.COM 1-702-9530933 C055984877954 May 30 $1.00.
they had to cancel my debit card and reissue. - AndyWhen I did a Google search for 800-890-5097, the thing I notice is that most of the results have to do with Credit Unions.
And in fact, many of the Credit Unions list 800-890-5097 as the number THEY want you to call if you suspect you are the victim of fraudulent use of your credit card.
So at this point I'm thinking it is legit. 800-890-5097 appears to be for a "Falcon Fraud Prevention Service", and apparently many Credit Unions contract with them to keep an eye on their members' credit card usage.
Some of the advice given on other Credit Union's webpages, says that they may ask you for your birthdate or the last 4 digits of your SSN, but that they should not ask for your full SSN nor for your credit card number. If someone does ask you that, the person you've reached is not legit and you should hang up.
We got an automated call today asking us to call 800-890-5097. At the beginning, they said the call was on behalf of our Credit Union (by name). I didn't provide the requested information because it was for my daughter. (By the way, she DID make a purchase just yesterday for a few hundred dollars, well beyond her usual $5-$30 purchases, which must have triggered an alarm that prompted the call.)- Caller: "on behalf of" our Credit Union
- TyCall came after I paid several utility bills for a friend. The VM identified itself and my bank correctly. My bank also confirmed that this was a legitimate fraud prevention service.
Called the number and gave them the info and they correctly identified several purchases I made, asking me to press 1 to mark as a legit purchase/payment.
You should ignore Ben's comment above as it seems that he was defrauded in some manner, he did not say whether it came from this number.- Caller: Fraud Prevention Service

- innm replies to 1-800-890-5097| 3 repliesGot message to call 1-800-890-5097, called them and when they asked for last 4 digits of social, I also hung up. Got on-line and saw no suspicious activity on my account, so checked out the credit union's web site and did not see anything related to this. Looked up the phone number and got this web site. Looked on the back of my card and sure enough its the same number so this time entered my info and spoke to a rep from the bank. He went through the last 5 transactions I made to confirm that it was me using the card and that I was aware of the transactions. This number is legit. Just a heads up though, get the phone number from the back of your card to confirm.
- Dan replies to lowrider| 1 replyI did a search for this number and it belongs to this company:
http://www.umcu.org/resources/scams/FraudIdentification.html
I called the number and they never asked for my card # just the my name and the last four digits of my SSN. They were just confirming I was aware of my recent transactions and that I had made them.
