This phone number belong to Microsoft Developer support. Apparently the stupid bean brain Indians (phone blocks anonymous calls-so the name showed up as DHARA) that called the other day with the weak line that there was something wrong with my computer, are attempting to use a legitimate number to try to scam people....

Tell them that you are initiating a trace on the call, watch how fast they hang up....

These scammers call everyday around 3:00 PM.  Every day! They cannot be too bright if they waste there time on people who they have already called and rejected them.  But I did figure out a way to frustrate them and waste more of their time. After you have said hello and they give you their spiel, just answer OK in a very even and robotic voice.  They will try and rile you up and test you by calling you vulgar names but it was fun when I did it.  I could sense his frustration.

I got a call from this number this afternoon.  They indicated that my "windows" was having issues.  The heavy Indian accent and the fact that my IT department would probably be the one reaching out to me made me realize that this was a scam.  I had a few choice words and hung up on him as I was on a "real" conference call for work.

Scammers spoofing the Microsoft Device Accessories TTY Support number. Scammers usually ask victims to press 1 or 9 when they are spoofing a number, so you think it is the actual number they are calling from.

    Quote:
Hello there this call is about the refund of money which you paid to our company for your computer services and protection now we are refunding it back as we will no longer be able to provide you any more services on your computer so please press 1 to speak to an agent and claim your refund.

Help spread the word and prevent someone from becoming a victim.

    Fact:
    • ANYONE who calls you and says your computer called/contacted them is a SCAMMER.
    • Windows Operating System licenses do not expire.
    • ANY Tech Support Warning pop-ups you get while accessing the internet asking you to call a number or visit a website, is from a SCAMMER.
    • Web Browsers DO NOT have the ability to determine and warn you your computer has an error. They can only warn you about a potential malicious website. A Browser is software that allows you to surf the Internet, not diagnose a computer or phone.
    • ANY Tech Support company that insists you need their services because of some error, outdated software or tries to convince you that you need to allow them remote access is a SCAMMER.
    • Nobody could possibly know if your computer or devices have an issue unless you tell them or gave them access.
    • Tech Support companies DO NOT call to give out refunds because they are "going out of business". In fact NO company gives refunds when going out of business unless they did not provide you with what you paid for.
    • Companies DO NOT call to inform you that your subscription will be charged if you don't call back, only SCAMMERS do that. If you have a subscription with someone, they automatically charge you until you cancel it.

Please read about how Tech Support Scammers operate the scams and warn everyone possible about them.

TrendMicro FAQ on Tech Support Scams
Microsoft -  Protect yourself from Tech Scams

Never trust a caller who wants to "help your computer" for any reason (unless you contacted them first), as they are only going to scam you. If you need Tech Support, you should contact a reputable local service.

    Message from Microsoft:
    Quote:
Remember, Microsoft will never proactively reach out to you to provide unsolicited PC or technical support. Any communication we have with you must be initiated by you.

Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories, so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. They might even guess what operating system you're using.

Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a legitimate website (such as www.ammyy.com) to install Remote Access software that will let them access your computer to pretend to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information are vulnerable.

Do not trust unsolicited calls. Do not provide any personal information. Do not allow them access.

Protect yourself from tech support scams:

SCAM ALERT!! Caller ID "TOLL FREE CALL" This is a robocall made by Indian scammers pushing the "Microsoft's-getting-suspicious-activity" scam. If you answer the call, simply HANG UP. Doing anything else lets the scammers know your phone number is "active," and they will sale it to other scammers resulting in more harassing calls to you.

"This is an automated call from Microsoft's security department we are getting suspicious activity running on your computer and in Microsoft's firewall security has been breached due to unauthorized logging attempts we recommend you please do not access your any financial information such as banking shopping on your computer for security reasons until your computer will not get fixed please contact Microsoft store or to talk to Microsoft on line technician press 9."

Msft calling.  Your computer has been compromised.  Don't contact any financial organizations.  Press 9 for technical support.  I pressed 9.  Engaged with  A$$hole for about 5 minutes.  Weather was rainy.  He was fine.  His mother wasn't sick.  Told him, Believe Me  I have had this number for 50 years.  No, no annie lives here.  The dumb #$%% didn't have enough sense to hang up on me.  How they make money off of stupid Americans is a sad commentary on the populous.

Received a call from this number stating there was a security problem with my computer. That I should not do any financial work until I got help from them. Punch button number on my phone to be connected to a MSTech. Ha. So I did. Yup, an idiot answered. Point is I have no computer. I have several tablets. Well secured tsblets. Within a second of answering the question, " You don't have a computer? " (Voice sounded shocked,) My answer was "correct, I do not have a computer, and I think this is a spurious call." The line was closed. I blocked the # , and checked it out. Number Is  a MS number. The voice of the "tech" had an Indian Subcontinent accent. But, no apparent coms lag. Since the call ended I have no precise info on what personal financial information they would have asked for. I have had so many BS calls from places claiming to be from MS I will probably hang up on a real one.  The call came prefixed with a 1. MS Number is not on my search prefixed with the digit 1. Punching the given digit resulted in an immediate connection. I have no more data.
