Received a call from this guy collecting a debt. He was friendly and helped me get my credit back on track. It was not a scam at all

This is BS for one very simple reason - Once you have a debt that has gone to collection it is now on your credit report. No matter what you do it will be there for 7 years. It cannot be removed, unless there was an error. Your credit report is a reflection of your ability to borrow money, pay it back, & manage debt. Unless your debt was the fake kind, from a foreign 3rd world criminal extortionist. Not a biggie, just laugh at them when they call.
