- WinniReceived a call from this number on 9/27/2018 at 14:16est. Caller ID displays 800-922-0001 which is a Verizon Wireless exchange and very similar to many of their outbound numbers used to reach out to customers as well as their main inbound customer survive number of 800-922-0204.
I took the call thinking it could be Verizon. A recorded mail voice said “This is Verizon Wireless calling to inform you that your account has been deactivated due to suspicious activity. To resolve this matter now, please press 1 to use our automated system using your keypad, or press 2 to speak with an live agent,” prompting me to engage. Immediately realized this was bogus so I pressed 2 to speak with an “agent” and try to dig a litter deeper on this phishing expedition.
After pushing 2 to speak with an agent the recorded voice further prompted me saying “For security purposes and verify your identity please enter the last four digits of the primary account holders SSN. At this point I hung up. In hind sight I should have entered some random four digits to advance the call. I would imagine it didn’t matter if you selected 1 or 2. Both options would try to extract private information such as SSN numbers, Account PIN and other Verizon account related info to gain access to your account. At that point I imagine you would be the proud owner or I should say purchaser of a dozen new iPhone XS.
This is a scam! Take the call and confirm what other info they are phishing for and see where it goes. Verizon said they are aware or this activity but nothing they can do. The caller ID has been spoofed and if called back you reach a chat line that says it connects Guys wanting to chat up Hot Girls or Girls wanting to chat with Nice Guys.
Good luck....- Caller: Phishing Call (NOT Verizon Wireless)
