Email SPAM

I got an email which included this number.  I did email back for it is a company called Equity Direct which says they can work with your present mortgage company to possibly modify your loan agreement and have your interest lowered so to lower your monthly mortgage payments.  I have spoken to a gentleman and gave general information but am now not sure if I should follow through for I was trying to locate the business through better business bureau and though there is a company by that name, I'm not sure if it is the same company for the number doesn't match and now I see your message about it being a spam.  Could you fill me in on what you know so I don't make any mistakes here?  Thanks.
