- R| 1 replyRecorded message claiming to be Verizon Wireless (to be fair, they did call my VZW cell phone) saying something about 40-some-odd dollars. The beginning of the message was cut off because they must have started playing it when my voicemail picked up, so the message left on my voicemail was only a partial message.
I seem to remember some scam going around like this in the past, but I can't find anything about it or about this number. Remember what they say about things that are too good to be true...- Caller: Verizon Wireless (but probably not)
- R replies to ROh, and to clarify, it wasn't about $40+ dollars that I owed (my bill is paid in full at the moment) but about $40+ owed to me. Seems fishy that they'd have a pre-recorded message with such a specific amount of money owed to me, no? It wasn't even one of those weird robotic voices filling the amount into the recording (if that makes sense).
- Sandy| 1 replyI also got a call from this number and a similar (slightly garbled) message was left that I had $47 owed to me. I was instructed to go to the Verizon site to redeem the amount owed. Like R mentioned, they claimed to be Verizon Wireless and did call my VZW cell.
- Mike-in-MD replies to SandyThis is a big scam to gain access to your Verizon wireless account so they can add their own devices and run up thousands in charges. They direct you to a cybersquatting site of the form VerizonXXX.com where XXX = the $ amount of the supposed rebate. These sites look like the real Verizon site and pass all information entered onto the real site which validates your userid and password for them. Never, ever go to any site other than the real verizon wireless site to access your account.
- CarolI got two calls on my verizon cell phone, one from this number and one from 800-922-7671. It said to log into my account at myverizon47 and that I would get a $47 credit that would be deducted from my next bill. I am very suspicous about this.
- Caller: ???
- Ruth L.| 2 repliesI received a message from 1-800-922-7672 and 1-800-922-7671 saying that I needed to sign in to MyVerizon to redeem $47.00 that was owed to me. They identified themselves as Verizon. Is this a scam?
- Caller: Verizon (according to voicemail on cell phone)
- CelticDragon replies to Ruth L.Was the site 'myverizon47.com' or something like that? If so, then yes, it is a scam. http://whois.domaintools.com/myverizon47.com
- Mike-in-MD replies to Ruth L.ANY call claiming to be from Verizon Wireless and directing you to a website like Myverizonxx.com where XX = the $ amount of the supposed rebate is a scam. The site looks like a real Verizon site but is located offshore. It passes your userid and password to the real Verizon Wireless site to ensure they are valid but captures them in the process. They then login to your account, change the password, add their own devices and run up thousands in fraudulent charges before you find out and regain control of your account. Any true rebate from Verizon would not require you to login to your account to receive it.
