I think it is From AAA.  However, they called to tell me I needed to renew my policy, which I did need, but my insurance is from another insurance carrier.  I think they are trying to get calls from policy holders of different companies and give them a chance to sell your renewal policy if you talk to them

No identity, just a number.  didn't answer and let go to voice mail.  No message left.  The way I see if, if you want your identity to remain private when you call me, then I'll respect your right to anonymity by not answering your call.

Called saying I had a collection account for a returned check from 11 years ago for $200 at a place I hadn't been to in over 20 years. The first rep argued with me & then hung up on me. I called back & another rep said he would document that I disputed the claim and then he hung up. Pretty sure it's a scam, if not it's the worst collection agency I've ever had contact with.
    • Caller: Unclear, accent of rep too strong to understand.
    • Call type: Debt collector

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I received a letter "from AAA" demanding a virtual inspection of my home. If I don't comply they will discontinue my coverage. This is the first time for such a request in over 40 years of patronage.  I feel this is an intrusion into my privacy and I may seek another insurance company.
