Got a call from this number. The woman said she was with USAA Federal Savings Bank and that I needed to call them to update my information to avoid disruption of my account access. She left a different 800 number to call. I called USAA, which happens to be my bank, and they verified that this call was a scam. This just underscores the vigilance we all must maintain when emails or phone calls ask for personal info because no bank we do business with will ever ask for that information...they already have it as it was necessary to establish an account with them.

This number was on my caller ID, a message was left to call a different number that claimed to be USAA.  I called the USAA number that I know to be correct.  They said it was a call from USAA and they needed me to make a change on my account.

I also received a call and voicemail from this number, the woman identified herself as being from USAA Federal Savings Bank and asked that I return the call to verify some of my information to prevent problems with my account. I called USAA at the number on their website (not the number from the voicemail) and reported the call, they verified that it was fraudulent.

The way you have it written, your message suggests that this call was legitimate, it is in fact a scam. The real USAA has confirmed that when I called them. Your posted message is confusing/misleading as it is written.

I called USAA from a known USAA number.  They confirmed the call was legit.  They needed to make a change to my overdraft protection.  Is that clear now?

CNYRN - Not sure what world you live in because it's not clear at all how you can claim that a bogus number is real when it isn't. And the fact you returned to check on these posts would reinforce the idea that you're part of the scam and working to ensure the deception works.

Bottom line: only call established numbers for USAA or any bank, do not rely on those left by callers claiming to be from a bank.

I also got this call, and it was about overdraft protection for checking.  The representative never asked for financial or personal information and suggested that I could take care of it by logging into my account on the USAA website or by calling USAA back at their regular number.

I checked with USAA anyway.  The number is legitimate and is associated with one of their departments, which is currently asking customers who use a VISA card for overdraft protection to change to a different funding source (another USAA account, a Mastercard, etc.).

That said, it's possible for an identity thief to spoof a phone number and misrepresent as a representative of the business associated with that phone number. No bank is going to phone you and ask you for personal information.   A legitimate bank (or other such institution) that needs you to alter personal or financial information will ask you to call them back at their legitimate listed number or ask you to go online to their website.  If anybody calls you and asks for personal or financial information, don't give it to them.

The number is legitimate. Whoever told you it isn't wasn't well informed.

However a real number can be spoofed from a different number (e.g. from an identity thief).  I agree to never give personal information to anybody who phones asking for it; always say that you'll call the business back and do so to a number you know is legitimate.

I, too, received a call from this number, requesting a courtesy review of my USAA accounts, which I declined at that time.  I then called USAA directly at its main number, confirming that the first call was indeed legitimate.  USAA advised me of the number its representative called from, the number she called to, and the exact time and date the call was placed to me.  Hope this helps.

Please be aware that caller ID info can be (and are) easily spoofed.  In my case it was not, but that is not to say that others posting here about this number (or any other number) in fact received legitimate calls, regardless of what the caller ID indicated.  As stated previously, it's always good practice to call back to a number known to be legitimate when discussing personal/financial information.  I can only tell you that the actual phone number we're discussing here belongs to USAA Federal Savings Bank, not that one's caller ID record accurately reflects the number from which a call was actually made.

I received a missed call from this number today, but a voicemail was left. I checked my voicemail and it was the tail end of a recorded message. It was also broken up and barely understandable. I doubt very much that the call I received was legitimate, because i dont have a checking account with USAA, only savings.

I just recieved a call from this number but no message was left so i did the smart thing and looked up the number online to see who called. I found this page and read that the number was fraudulant and said it was USAA (banking). I do not have a banking account with USAA only auto insurance...so this was fishy to me so I called USAA using the number off thier site. And the guy confirmed that they had NOT tried to contact me. And what i had done was right and that if they had called they would not ask for me to give them my personal imformation. They should have it already if they are ligit. So my advice is if you don't recognize a number do a web search and always call the number for the company that you know to be true.
