Thank you for the advice to call AT&T customer service.  The person I spoke to said that the other number did not belong to AT&T.  I informed her that I had never ever had an AT&T wireless account.  She put my name into the system and was not able to pull up any records.  I'm going to ignore this number from now on.

I got a call from this number and they asked for personal information so I hung up.  I checked my ATT account, I am fully paid up and on time and have been. I have had this number for years so they are not calling about a former owner of this number.  So what gives?

They claim to be AT&T, but I have autopay, so it seem suspicious.

Just received a call from them a few Min's ago, i didn't answer and they left a message. Its a scam, first off i am not the account holder, if your not the account holder then you shouldn't be receiving a call from them. second they ask you for you information, you never give out your card number or personal info, EVER. you pay online (make sure its secure) or you hang up and call the company YOURSELF. do not give out information to people who call you, better safe then sorry.

***People, realize there are millions of ways people can steal your card number. You don't even have to give it out, even using it to go to dinner or buy gas people can still steal it. BE CAREFUL! Don't be stupid and think "it will never happen to me because i am special and have some magical anti-theft force field" Last year my sister had over 5k in plane tickets to major cities bought on her personal card for the day of September 11, and she never, ever gives out her info... she only used it for purchases at stores***

Wow...what a bunch of [***] here.  It's freaking AT&T.  They call when your bill is overdue.

I've never missed a payment until this month (completely forgot about it), and I just got a call a few minutes ago telling me it was late.  I immediately paid online after I got off the phone.  I've also never gotten one of these calls until today.

If you think this is a scam, you're clearly mentally handicapped in some way.

I keep getting calls from this number and they say it's about my AT&T online service.  I don't have AT&T.  It's an automated message. So, I report them to the Do Not Call every time they call. But, it hasn't helped.

Called the number back and it went to a normal AT&T line.  My bill was past due and they helped me set up a payment arrangement.  Never asked for any financial information.  The operator used the same scripts they always do when speaking to a customer.  No reason for me to believe it was a scam.

It's a total scam. They called me about problems paying the phone bill, but I am the youngest child of the house, so that gave it away.

Holy crap--you guys are IDIOTS.  They don't know that you're the youngest child of the house; you're just a phone number on a past due account.  Your account holder probably ignores the calls, so now they are trying to reach anyone for payment.  THIS IS NOT A SCAM CALL.  The only scam being pulled here is 1/2 of you acting like you have a clue.  Don't reproduce.

This thread is hilarious!!!  (Though the name-calling is uncalled for.)  The PEOPLE working for AT&T are incompetent. . .that doesn't make this a scam.  If AT&T has admitted that the number belongs to their collections department, obviously the problem is that the PEOPLE who work there aren't keeping the records up to date.  Happens everywhere all the time.  :-)  That would be the same reason that NON-AT&T customers would get calls. . .incompetent people not doing their jobs.

It's a scam.  We've had the same numbers on verizon for over 10 years. Just started receiving the calls on my daughter's phone, though she isn't even listed on the acct. They then asked her for MY social security number.  My acct is on automatic deduction with verizon and never been late.

If you have ANY questions, don't ever give them your SS# or payment information.  Hang up, go online and check your bill that way.  Failing that, go to the AT&T store asap.
