Received a call from 800-955-5172 also warning me of suspicious activity on a card that I have not used in over half a year.  Sure enough I checked on my account and saw the unauthorized activity on my card.  But here's the interesting part, when I called it was for a sweepstakes company and I knew right away this was not right.  I don't know how that happened but it's quite smart of the scammers to post activity then have you call them at the number they give you to get more information from you.

I received a letter in the mail saying "We're concerned about potentially suspicious activity" it says to call 1-800-955-5172. In the letter. They said they can't find my account so he nervously asked if it's okay with me if give them my social security No. I refused to give my social No. But I did give my name address and 16 digit code. THE NEXT DAY I RECIVED A CALL SAYING MY ACCOUNT HAS SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY. Luckily the "real" Fraud protection agency were doing their job and put a stop to each transaction that wasn't in my home state.

Never give out ANY credit card information to callers. If there is a question regarding your account, call the number on the back of your card.

Citibank mailed a letter to me because they said they can not reach me via phone, want to verify charges.
They know what kind of card I have (Citibank Business)  and my phone number on file.
So it is legitimate number.

This is a valid Citi fraud department number - they do not post it on their website and some of the customer service departments may not even be aware of the number.  I received a call from this # saying it was the Citi fraud department and to call them back at this #.  Rather than calling, I logged onto my credit card account and the first message that popped us was "Contact Customer Service - We apologize for any inconvenience, but to protect your account, further charges may be limited until you have contacted our Customer Service Department at 800-955-5172(TTY: 1-800-325-2865)".  Anyone that still believes this is a fraud can easily go to citi.com and call the main number and ask for the fraud department.

I called the number on the back of my card, because I was suspicious of the number. They verified that 1-800-955-5172 is in fact a real Citibank phone number. They were calling because I lost my card and it had been found (I had already canceled the card 2 weeks ago, and they confirmed that too).

Now, let us see how many posts are made after this one, that ignore the advisory and try to claim that, since their call was or was not "legitimate", yours must be too.

Dig a little deeper and you will find the number is a scam.

Do you seriously think that person could use that information 11 years later? Are you expecting them to stop back after 11 years to see your post?

This is absolutely a fraudulent number.   Never call any number but the number on the back of the card.
